Thank you for the tag, Tara. This one has been a joy from start to finish.

A whole-home window treatment install for this Villanova renovation, and not a single treatment repeated throughout the house. Every room its own story, every window its own solution. That is the kind of project that brings out the best in our team.

We cannot wait to see it fully furnished and styled. Something tells us it is going to be stunning.

This is one of my favorite projects this summer. A serene primary suite on Rittenhouse Square, executed in collaboration with Barbara Gisel Design.

We used a new slim-profile hardware system that nearly disappears against the architecture. When the treatment does all the talking and the hardware quietly steps aside, you know you have gotten it right.

Remember the cafe curtains on the arched living room window we showed you last week? Same home, different room.

This kitchen is part of a whole-home collaboration with Stephanie Kraus Design, with cordless Horizon woven wood shades . The natural texture against the tile backsplash was no accident. Everything in this room is working together, exactly as it should.

Hospitality Tip No. 01 — Specifying automated shades for a boutique hotel suite.

The spec always says "automated shades." What it rarely says is everything that has to be true for them to actually work. Here's what to get right before the order goes in.

1. Specify the pocket first. If the ceiling reveal isn't on the drawings, catch it on the site walk. An automated shade that can't recess flush reads as an afterthought, and in a boutique suite, there are no afterthoughts.

2. Clarify the control scenario. Remote, app, wall switch, or smart home integration. Each has different wiring requirements. Confirm with the GC before the motor is specified, not after.

3. Layer the scope correctly. A daylight shade and a blackout layer are two separate systems. Specify them together so the hardware, the pocket, and the fabric weights are coordinated from the start.

4. Think about the guest experience, not just the spec sheet. The shade should glide in silently, land at the right position, and require nothing from the guest to figure out. That's the standard.

The quarter-inch hem clearance. The weighted corners. The inside mount precision on an arched window that was, not long ago, buried under construction debris and measuring tape. These are the details no one notices...unless they are wrong.

This sitting room collaboration with Stephanie Kraus Design is one of those projects where the before tells as much of the story as the after. The architecture was always there. It just needed the right vision and the right hands to bring it to life.

What you see and what you don't see are doing equal amounts of work in this primary bath.

The Mock London Valances in Stout Textiles' Cleopatra fabric are the design moment. Pronounced swag elements, inverted pleats, interlined for body and weight, with a weight bar holding the lowest point of each swag exactly in place. Three windows in an octagonal space, each one matched and consistent.

Behind them, invisible when the valances are dressed: three cordless blackout roller shades. Because a primary bath needs privacy and light control as much as it needs beauty.

This is what it means to specify a window treatment rather than just cover a window.

A front-facing room has a problem to solve. You want the light. You don't want to feel like you're on display.

In this family room, Stephanie Kraus Designs solved it with layering. A sheer faux-linen underlayer keeps the room bright and open while creating just enough of a veil from the street. The Stout Dayglow plaid over the top adds warmth and pattern without closing the room in. Installed at the crown molding on a double rod with satin brass hardware, the whole wall draws the eye up and makes a small room feel considered rather than cramped.

The difference speaks for itself.

Linen fabric filters light in a way no other material quite replicates, softening a room without dimming it. In a sunny Berwyn, PA breakfast room like this, that quality is everything.

But linen has a mind of its own. It absorbs moisture, it responds to temperature, and can grow or shrink. Getting the length exactly right requires hanging the panels, watching the fabric, and hemming only when it has fully settled. There are no shortcuts.

Shortcuts aren't really our style anyway.
