I’m a business owner!!!!

This is surreal to write, surreal to share, and surreal to even put into actual text.

The day has come that I left Ulta and I’m starting my own salon venture.

I now feel freedom, relief, and pure happiness.

To say this was an easy decision to make would be a lie. I sat on it for a little in silence debating back and fourth unsure of what I wanted. I had so many emotions; fear, nervousness, excitement, I was all over the place. I battled in my head daily whether or not to take the leap of faith in the middle of an on going pandemic. Thoughts of, If I fail would it just be another lesson in my book of life, or if I jump in with both feet maybe, just maybe, I would succeed and be so proud of myself. I finally decided to take that jump. I put my all into this space that I now will call home. My all being my savings, blood, sweat, tears, and anxiety (LOTS of it) haha. Trying to figure out how to open a business all on my own, without much guidance was tough and scary. But it feels absolutely amazing. It feels amazing to say I did it all on my own, with no financial help from anyone. Just 23 year old me, with lots of love and support from my family, hope, prayers, determination and God. If you would have told me a year ago this would be happening, I wouldn’t have believed you, let alone 5 years ago. I just knew I had a passion and a love that I was following. Nothing was going to stop me nor get in my way of my happiness and my dreams. At the end of the day, I went into this career field to follow my dreams and be happy. I refuse to do what I love and not be HAPPY in an environment while doing it.

If I could go back to baby Reign dreaming of the day where she would grow up and do ‘hair and makeup’ , I would tell her to never doubt herself. That there will be plenty of people that may question you, doubt you, and judge you, but you need to persevere, be strong and never give up. That she has amazing dreams and she is going to be okay. It’s all going to be okay. And that I’m so very proud of her.

I want to thank my parents for always loving and supporting me. You both mean the world to me and I am who I am today, because of the both of you. Thank you for raising me to be independent, for teaching me to follow my dreams, and to do what makes me happy. Also, thank you both for naming me Reign. A name I once hated. A name I now love and am so grateful to have. A name so special that I decided to use it for my salon.

I want to thank all my best bi***es as well. You have been my rocks for the moments I doubted myself. For helping me yay or nay details. For adding to the bomb playlist. And finally, thank you for slapping me in the face (metaphorically of course) when I needed to be reminded that I am a boss ass bitch, that I am going to kill it, and never letting me back out from my goals.

I want to thank my clients. Without any of you this wouldn’t have ever been possible. I’ve grown so close to all of you and truly love you with all of my heart. I can not wait to share this space with you all and build new memories here.

Lastly, I want to thank who I consider my family at ULTA. The first salon where my manager believed in me so much, without any experience, that she put me right on the floor. I will always have love for the beautiful people there that helped me become who I am today. I still have a lot of growing and learning, but I have no doubt that I’ll do just that and keep in the back of my head all of the things I learned from you all. I’ll love you all forever.

It is so surreal to be opening a salon suite in the town I was raised in. The town I spent so much time in with my mom running errands and hanging out as teens. So many old memories, and so many new ones to be made.

Studio Reign is going to be a place of love, happiness, acceptance, and peace. I have no doubt there will be a lot of laughs, tears, hugs, and memories made there. Every little piece that I picked out for the salon is a piece that represents the vibe I wanted for my salon. Right down to the music. A mix through every generation and hit song of every genre you can think of.
Studio Reign is and always will be a safe space where you are encouraged to be yourself and nothing less.

So cheers to the future. Cheers to the little girl that once contemplated her future. Cheers to the woman right now who took every no and turned it into a yes. The woman who took that leap and is living her dream life like there’s no tomorrow. Cheers to me because I am so damn proud of myself!
