GRAFTS vs HOST disease after a stem cell transplant is good and bad. In my case we welcomed it because it means the donor cells are fighting off cancer cells that want to return. The downside is the donor is also attacking me.

I have GVHD of the eyes, and Gastrointestinal GVHD: The mouth, stomach, intestines and liver. When GVHD attacks these organ and tissues it can cause a host of painful symptoms such as:

-mouth sores and ulcers, very dry mouth
-sensitivity to spicy, acidic or crunchy foods and carbonated beverages
-difficulty swallowing,
-swollen, red and/or bleeding gums,
-abdominal pain, bloating and/or cramping,
-watery or bloody diarrhea,
-persistent nausea and vomiting,
-loss of appetite or feeling full after eating only a little bit,
-unplanned weight loss,
-yellow skin
(Sounds like Ozempic? lol!)

Treatments to help:

Drugs that suppress my immune system help some, but there is a type of blood treatment like dialysis called extracorporeal photopheresis (ECP), which has helped the mouth.
