When I’m intentional about self care, I better care for others. Everything written here is also a message to myself. I don’t know about you, but this doesn’t come naturally to me. What am I missing that can be added to this list?

I am often asked about collagen supplementation and for most of my clients, collagen is an important recommendation. After age 35, our body’s collagen levels start to decline, and by age 60, over half has been depleted. It seems like everywhere you look, collagen is being promoted. While getting collagen is a good thing, the source may be more important than you think. There are many good collagen powders on the market right which help to boost your body’s natural production of collagen. This article explains the different types of collagen and how it affects your body.
Collagen is the primary structural protein in the body, essentially functioning as the “glue” that holds us together. It provides elasticity and strength to our skin, and maintains the health of joints, bones, ligaments, tendons, hair, nails, and our gut.
In my opinion, one of the best ways to get more collagen and other vital nutrients in my diet is by drinking bone broth. Bone broth happens to be extremely inexpensive and easy to make.

Don’t forget to get plenty of vitamin C in your diet. You might not be aware of this, but it helps protect your skin and aids in the creation of collagen. Our bodies cannot make vitamin C so we must get it from our diet, or in supplement form. Citrus fruits, green leafy vegetables, papaya, strawberries, and broccoli are all rich in vitamin C.

I may not be up to date on all the new fitness trends, but I try to move my body using functional movements every day and include strength training at least 3-4 times a week. I've always had resistance bands lying around and use them religiously. How about you? What is your go-to?

Brain fog, anyone? I thought this was an interesting article talking about why we can get brain fog and what we can do about it. After cleaning up my diet, learning to manage my stress properly, and incorporating breathing techniques into my life, I have noticed a significant decrease in this symptom. My next newsletter will touch on this, with a focus on breathing practices. Go to my website, kariannwellness.com, and subscribe to my quarterly newsletters for nutrition and wellness tips. Or just dm me if you're interested in setting up a plan to get your health and wellness back on track.

I seriously can’t believe that it’s been almost a year since the beginning of the COVID-19 Pandemic! Who would’ve thought, right?!
What has been some things that have helped you get through these tough times?
For me, it has been trying to keep a routine, staying connected with family and friends, and trying to eat the most nutrient-dense foods as possible. I’m not always consistent, but I do my best.

Ha. Don’t mind that I look slightly dead here 😂 👉🏼Here’s an easy pose to help relax your body. Put your legs up the wall for a few minutes per day to calm yourself during, or after a high stress situation or to aid in digestion.
-For greater support, use a bolster or pillow on the floor against the wall.
-Rest and relax your shoulders and head on the ground.
-Shift your weight from side to side and scoot your butt as close as you can to the wall.
-Let your arms rest open at your sides, palms facing up.
-Relax your hips
-Close your eyes and hold this pose for 5-7 minutes, breathing with awareness.
-To release, slowly push yourself away from the wall and slide your legs down to the side, using your hands to help press yourself back up to a seated position.

So...what is this kari_ann_wellness thing all about? Well, recently I graduated from the NTA and am beyond excited to start down a new path as a Nutritional Therapy Practitioner (NTP).
My passion for holistic nutrition and fitness has steadily grown over the past 20 years. After heading down several career paths, I feel I have found my true calling: learning, teaching and inspiring others about nutrition. I am grateful that situations in my life have aligned to allow me to put my energy into following my dream. I’ve learned so much and become healthier along the way. Honestly, I can’t wait to share with you what I’ve learned.
The knowledge I’ve gained has helped me to realize the need to step back and look at each person with bio individuality, using innate wisdom, along with ancestral wisdom and scientific research, to approach each person as a whole. I’ve never felt more strongly about the importance of eating healthy, while balancing the body, mind, and spirit.
I still feel a bit lost in the world of social media information overload, but am working to use it as another tool for connecting and sharing ideas.
My website is coming soon, but remains under construction for now. More to come on that. Please DM me with any questions. I would love to connect with you on your journey!
