Hair Guitar was saddened by the passing of Ace Frehley but left with an ear to ear smile over the memories he gave us. KISS was our gateway band into the hard rock world and Ace was our guy. We’re pretty sure we can hum each memorable solo as they became songs within the song.

From the first time our older neighbor introduced us to KISS in 1974 (thanks Mike!), to the first time Firehouse burned our ears with Ace’s timeless melodic solo, to the shock & awe his smoking guitar left every primary schooler with, the mold was set for what we expected from our rock star lead guitarists.

From an 8 yr olds perspective, his quick trigger on laughter always made Ace the easiest to cheer for. His memorable remark that: “Had I have known I was going to influence so many guitarists, I would’ve practiced a lot more.!” fit right into this belief.

While we tapped out after Love Gun, it was no surprise when Ace’s solo album was the surprise stand out, as Rip It Out still stands as our favorite Ace song ever.

With KISS leading the league in marketing, we (like most 8-18 yr old boys) had more than one KISS poster in our room. These iconic images created a bookmark in time that we reserve for no other.

God Bless Ace Frehley and his family. Thank you for all of it. Any KISS/Ace memories you would like to share, would be a delight to hear!

**Self Indulgent Rock Post Alert**. This week in 1983, AC/DC released an often forgotten album, that happens to possess 3 songs that are Top 25 all-time AC/DC favs for Hair Guitar!! While the album is considered a commercial disappointment (on the heels of Back in Black & FTATR), this stripped down, no frills hard rockin juggernaut was just what the doctor ordered for a young Hair Guitar. It also marked the end of drummer Phil Rudd’s first run with the band as he was sacked mid way through the recording of the album. Nonetheless, Guns for Hire, Flick of the Switch and Bedlam in Belgium all had the fire power of a hard rock blitzkrieg and are in constant rotation at Hair Guitar as well as on our fav workout soundtrack..(!). We’d argue this was also the height of Brian Johnson’s vocal powers/force. Ex: While it is extremely rare to blowout a microphone diaphragm, it is said he blew out multiple diaphragms just during the recording of the song Flick of the Switch. I hurts our voice just to mimic the lyrics in a hushed tone…. Do any songs from this personal fav hit the sweet spot for you?

Also, a big thanks to Drake for collaborating with Sonya to create this rockin’ black bottom w/red red on top vintage combo. An awesome throwback to when CBGB’s consistently hosted the haute couture of rockin’ hair! Cheyenne & Drake: you rock! Sonya & Lacey: you roll!

Maddie’s beige/blonde foilayage (foils & balayage!) with cool toned low lights resulted in a strikingly beautiful fusion of color/hair artistry. You wear it well Maddie (and fine work Sonya Helena Umaña!)

Ashley’s copper and strawberry blonde balayage resulted in an burst of sunshine that lights up the room. We love it Ashley, and hope you do as well! (and excellent work from Lacey!)

Hair Guitar: is looking for Musicians!! We’re preparing to start hosting private music events and are looking for skilled musicians to play at our shows! Whether you’re a one person entertainer or multi member band, if you’re good - we’re interested. The venues will start out intimate and grow (Lord willing..!). If interested, please message us with a link to video footage of a live performance and forward us a set list you’re capable of. While a majority of our audience is deeply rooted in the Rock/Classic Rock/Pop Rock/80’s New Wave/Outlaw Country/Americana world, we’re open to all music that’s good! Look forward to hearing from you!
