The truth is, it’s not just hairstylists that avoid doing roller sets. Over 20 years later, clients are still reeling from the dryer trauma of having to sit all day in the salon. 🤦🏾♀️But times have changed! Stylists are no longer triple booking, and most importantly, you have Candy Crush or some Netflix series to help pass the time.
What hasn’t changed is that relaxed hair and excessive heat from thermal irons are a recipe for breakage. Roller sets are a good way to keep some moisture in the hair while providing volume and longer style retention. I love that so many people are going back to the basics and back to what worked for the sake of their hair! 🧡 By the way, her dry time was only 1 hour and 10 minutes! 😉

The biggest mistake relaxed girlies make is listening to some YouTuber tell them how long to wait in between relaxers. 🙄 There's no one-size-fits-all answer to this. These are some of the things I consider to determine how often my clients should get their retouch:

✔️ Curl pattern of natural hair
✔️ Their rate of growth

Can we talk about shrinkage? That word is like a cuss word in the natural hair community! 😆 But I hate to tell you that it's not going anywhere anytime soon! Products that say they elongate your curls are LIES! 🤣 But look at it this way: if those curls are springing back, then they are giving what they are supposed to give! 🙌🏾 Embrace that healthy hair! 🧡🧡
