Joy is our most vulnerable emotion. When our systems aren’t regulated (think past traumas, collective grief, capitalism pushing not-enoughness), the experience of this profound emotion can feel far out of reach. Authentic human connection tells our nervous system that we are safe, which is necessary for vital functioning, healing and creativity. As humans, we rely on each other for social cues to feel safe, as the neural pathways of social behavior are the same pathways that are used to support healing and growth. This is one of the many reasons why being in community is so profound for us to heal, thrive, and experience joy.
