There is something I must say to dismiss the myth that new nail techs keep telling their customers:
"Luminairy is more nail friendly, lasts longer, stronger, etc. than acrylics"
This is not true. Acrylics is twice stronger than luminaries or GelX.
Nail friendly? The gel will get very hot when being cured under the light. It technically cooks the nails. The luminaries also need to be drilled off or soaked off using the same chemical and techniques. What is so nail friendly about it?
Last longer? No, my acrylics nail customers will tell you otherwise. Most acrylics nail techs suck, including new nail techs who don't know how to do acrylics and choose the easy ways [a.k.a dip-nails and luminaries] because acrylics need a lot of discipline to learn. Some take a few weeks but most take a year or 2 to be able to handle acrylics.
Look better? No, most luminaries nail technicians make a lot mistakes while trying to do the nail faster. A proper luminary nail set will take at least an hour and half to complete (given all the steps are correctly applied). The gel on the sides of the nails are likely to be missing. The shapes will be awkward here and there on some nails. It is actually harder to achieve the perfection of acrylics with luminaries.
Faster? No, I can do a full acrylics set with fake tips in 30 minutes if I want to, but for perfection, it will take 10-15 mins extra. I'm very proficient with luminaries and it still takes me about an hour to do a set. It would probably take nail tech with less skill about 1.5-2 hours to have 1 set done.
The dust from luminaries is finer and lighter than acrylics so the customers and yourselves inhale it more. It is a much worse health risk than acrylics.
Stop lying to customers about luminaries. It is your competence that you need to fix. Don't advertise the inferior luminaries as better just because you suck at dealing with acrylics. The gel dust is a lot more dangerous than acrylics.
This is how an acrylic application should look like before the drill refining ...
