I start dialysis training next week and then by Friday I’m on my own ! It’s a lot to take in at the moment but having the proper education and support around me has really been a huge blessing! I think it’s important to share my journey so people understand. I was told today that only 1% of the population uses PD dialysis bc they are not educated about it! So starting next week that’s my goal! Here is what PD dialysis is :

Peritoneal dialysis (PD) is a treatment for kidney failure that uses the lining of your abdomen (peritoneum) as a filter to clean your blood. A catheter is placed in your abdomen, and a cleansing fluid (dialysate) is introduced, which absorbs waste and excess fluid. After a set time, the fluid is drained, removing the waste products from your body. PD can be done at home, either manually (CAPD) or with a machine (APD).

Most of you know I recently was told I now have to start dialysis to bridge the gap until I get transplant. I should be starting in 2 weeks. I have a lot people ask me questions about what is the purpose. I found a condensed explanation of dialysis:

Benefits of Dialysis
