Hi! My name is Carmen and I am the owner of Body Contouring By Carm. I provide body contouring services in San Antonio, Texas for those who are interested in reshaping their body without having to pay the cost of doing invasive surgery. This treatment is an alternative, FDA-Approved, non-invasive, requires no down time, option. The methods used (depending on area and goal) are ultrasonic cavitation and radio frequency.

Cavitation uses low frequency radio waves that cause fat cells to implode and liquify. The melted cells turn in to either fatty acids or glycerol. Glycerol returns to your circulatory system that is then used for energy; whereas, the fatty acids get eliminated from the body through the lymphatic system and out through the urine.

Radio frequency uses ultrasonic energy to heat up beneath the dermis layer and encourage growth of collagen and elastin. Collagen is the protein that is responsible for tightening the skin, keeping the youthful, smooth appearance. But as we age those proteins naturally diminish over time.

The dual benefits of cavitation and radio frequency is that they help improve the overall look of the skin, and is effective in treating cellulite. It’s a fact that over 80-90% of women (less with men) have some degree of cellulite because of factors like genetics, diet, structure of connective tissue, etc. Although cellulite in itself is not harmful, its “orange peel” or “cottage cheese” appearance is a cause of concern for many women. Truth be told, that cellulite treatment is not a cure, it is only that… a treatment. It can help improve the skin for months at a time, but it is encouraged that follow up treatments occur to maintain it.

It is truly important to understand that results occur when both technician and client work together. Technicians should provide the treatment most ideal for a specific client, in the safest manner possible, and client, in good faith, should follow recommendations made. Having a good basis of understanding is important to maintaining a positive rapport and a healthy client-technician relationship.

Lastly, to err on the side of caution, the health of the client plays a huge role in determining whether he/she is a good candidate for treatment. Several health issues can affect a technician’s decision to postpone or cancel treatment altogether. Does the client have any of the following: Cancer (past or present), liver, kidney or heart disease, has pacemaker or other metal implants, is pregnant or nursing, if delivered child via caesarean (should be at least 6 months prior) vascular disease, and other things not mentioned here. Every client who is interested in doing the treatment should consult with their doctor FIRST. Again, although these treatments are deemed safe, erring on the side of caution is my goal. What does the treatment consist of? Depending on the treatment area I may use a combination of ultrasonic cavitation, radio-frequency, and massage. Cavitation uses ultrasonic waves to emulsify fat and radio frequency uses ultrasonic energy (heat) to tighten skin. Cellulite or stretch marks can also be visibly reduced as an added benefit.
