🥴 Coming from a corporate legal background before opening The Bronze Society, I look at marketing claims differently than most. While the industry loves to throw around the term "sweat-resistant," let’s clear up the legal risk, the real science, and why I do things differently.

⚖️ 1. The Legal Risk
Legally and physically, no spray tan can block your sweat glands. Slapping a "sweat-resistant" label on a service is a major liability—it implies the product alters your physiology. If a client sweats heavily and the color shifts, that misleading promise is a problem. I prefer transparency over catchy buzzwords.

🎯 2. Why People Say It
Properly formulated solutions give your tan the best possible head start. But let’s be real: sweat is naturally exfoliating. No ingredient can stop sweat and friction from speeding up skin cell shedding. This chemistry isn’t a magic shield; it just ensures the color binds as uniformly as possible on day one to minimize patchy fading.

🔬 3. The Science: DMI
I rely on chemistry, not hype. DMI (Dimethyl Isosorbide) is a high-purity solvent. It works during the APPLICATION phase by temporarily reducing the skin's surface tension. This draws the active tanning ingredients into the microscopic valleys of your skin, coating the cells evenly rather than sitting on the surface (Skin Pharmacology and Physiology, 2012).

Don't worry about "deep" pe*******on (trying not to giggle) - sunless tanning is strictly superficial. DMI only interacts with the stratum corneum (the top layer of dead skin cells). Because this layer is completely avascular—meaning it has no blood vessels—it is biologically impossible for these ingredients to enter your bloodstream (Scalia et al., 2007). They work only on the surface cells you naturally shed.
