For most of human history, elders were teachers, storytellers, and memory keepers. They were valued, honored, and respected as an essential part of community life. We want to help bring that culture back, and let it spill over into how we value, honor, and respect elders in our everyday lives. This gathering is a small but meaningful start.

Tomorrow from 11–2, Charlene, owner of .sd , and I are hosting Paper Hearts for Elders. A Valentines Day Card-Making gathering in partnership with .

We’ll be hand delivering the cards next week (let us now if you’d like to join) as a way of nurturing community and staying connected across generations.

Some of the most overlooked plants have the longest relationships with humans.
The yellow-flowered plant in this mix is London Rocket.

London Rocket is in the mustard family (Brassicaceae), and like wild mustard it’s a pioneer plant that:
• moves into disturbed soil quickly
• helps hold soil and reduce erosion
• flowers early and feeds pollinators
• prepares conditions for other plants to establish

Historically, London rocket has been gathered as a bitter green and used in folk traditions as a warming, stimulating herb, especially in early spring when fresh plants were scarce. Its sharp, mustard-like flavor made it useful in small amounts, much like other wild brassicas that people relied on before cultivated greens were widely available.

The more you learn plants, the harder it is to call them weeds. 🌎 ✌🏼 ❤️
