Disclaimer: THIS NEVER HAPPENS!!! While this was a “temporary” purple, this client had already washed her hair at least 8 times and said it was still just as bright as when she put it on (likely from the highlights we put in previously). These bright colors are soooo tricky. They deposit so deep into the cuticle, that even with a proper remover, you can still hit underlying pigment. But these are the challenges I love. As a stylist, knowing your color wheel and color theory is vital here. Three hours later, we got the results you see. Again.

I love a good cut! We freshened up her highlights, toned down her midtones, and cut A LOT.
As we look ahead into the holiday season (gulp), please note that I am currently booking into November and December. I do not have any availability in September and only a few remaining appointments in October. Text to get your appointments reserved. Thank you!

All the natural feels. It’s fun having clients since they were 5 because you know what color their hair has always been. You wouldn’t even know she didn’t grow these highlights herself.

*Update* Remember the sweet girl from a couple of posts back? She had been bleaching and coloring her own hair for a few years and has been trying desperately to grow it out naturally. We have been maintaining her extensions regularly, but this past visit, I did an treatment and trim as well. Look how well her hair is growing! She only has a couple more inches of rough hair and then she will be on her way. I know extensions seem counterintuitive to growing out hair. But if the installation is clean and the client stays on top of the maintenance, it really can help grow out damaged hair without added breakage.

I am still surprised at how many women ask if they are too old for long hair. Let me just say that this philosophy is something our mother’s mother’s placed on them and it is a lie from the devil. A hoax. It is blasphemy and I will prove it one head of extensions at a time. If you are over whatever age you think is long hair age and you would like to have some extra length and volume, I’m here to say not only CAN you do it, but you will look fierce doing it. This woman is…. Under 60, but older than 40 and she looks fabulous.

Another Covid transformation!

A solid nod to with hair from BUT, believe it or not, the bigger transformation here was her color. Her natural base/root color is an ashy dark blonde with some scattered bits of sparkly wisdom 😉(silver). She wants low maintenance color but bright blonde. If you have highlights and feel like they never look bright enough, it could be that your base/root color is only a few levels darker than your highlights and also in the gold family. When the root color is warm, it rests against the highlights making them look yellow. Sometimes you actually have to go “darker” to go lighter. Ash tones do not reflect light the way warm tones do and therefore, leave blonde highlights looking bright. And, in my opinion, this is an overall natural and more youthful looking color. In my journey as a hairstylist, I’ve had the opportunity to build a business based on trust and loyalty and some of my very best friends. Over the years, many things have changed for me, as they have for all of you, and this moment felt like the perfect moment to begin a new chapter, with a new name. Welcome to Selah Salon by Jenni. The exact meaning of the word “selah” is debated, but the most widely accepted translation means “pause” or “amen” or “forever”. It was mainly used in a musical context, inviting the singer or reader to pause for contemplation, or at the end of a psalm to indicate an end and transition to the next. I believe that describes my goal for this new phase of my life and business perfectly. I want my salon to be a place where clients and friends can come in for a pause from their daily life, to contemplate or simply just relax. Thank you all for taking this journey with me.

Sometimes the cutest 8 year old comes in for a haircut and “Elsa braid” and gets away with paying in Girl Scout cookies.
