let me tell you about ivana 💜 she had virgin hair when i met her, and for two years we did bleach retouches. never a single reaction — until one day mid-retouch, she kept scratching her palms and arms. not her scalp, not her hairline. just her hands and forearms.

she brushed it off as maybe a new product in her routine. her scalp? totally fine. then halfway through processing she came back from the bathroom with hives on her arms and bright red ears.

my assistant ran for allergy meds, i rinsed immediately and used malibu c de-ox, changed her mask, and monitored her closely. she stabilized, but that moment changed how i view chemical safety forever.

🚨 persulfate allergies are systemic immune responses. they don’t always show up where the product touches. they can look like:
❌ itchy palms and arms ❌ hives in pressure areas (mask straps, waistbands) ❌ redness or heat in random places ❌ shortness of breath, anxiety, dizziness ❌ NOT always burning on the scalp

if ignored, these reactions can escalate — and repeat exposure can lead to severe systemic symptoms like anaphylaxis.
we have to go beyond what we were taught. safety isn’t just about application technique, it’s about recognizing what a real allergic reaction looks like and knowing when to stop.
