Those silver clips are holding a finger wave set, and Pinup books it as "the vintage look".
A finger wave doesn't come from an iron. The hair gets molded flat against the head while it's wet, then clipped in rows. It sits there until it's dry enough to hold on its own. Pull the clips early and the whole set drops out.
The prints on these walls are pinup girls. Vintage sets and pin curls are on the regular menu on Fauntleroy Way in West Seattle, not just on wedding days.

This started as faded pink over grown out dark roots. Pink doesn't cover. It has to come out first, which is why the middle photo is at the shampoo bowl and not the color bar.
Pink stains the cuticle. Put a natural brown straight over it and you get a muddy cast. So the old color gets stripped and toned before anything new goes on.
It finished dark auburn with a bright piece at the front.

Teal this vivid never goes straight onto natural hair. It gets lifted first, then the color goes on top.

Your curl pattern isn't the same all over your head. It's tighter in some spots, looser in others, and none of that shows once the hair has been washed and combed straight.
