We’ve normalized too much in healthcare.
Especially at the bedside.
Small workflow gaps.
Shared surfaces.
Mixed-use spaces that were never designed with patient safety in mind.
After years of seeing it firsthand, I stopped asking why…
and started working on a better way.
This is one of those solutions.
More to come.

The statement was published in the journal Circulation.
❤❤❤🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾 I know about addiction far too well for it has impacted the life of my family and friends. My biggest pet peeve is when people say "you had a perfect life, how could you mess it up like this over alcohol or drugs" or "if you want help you should just ask" or "We've already been down this road before and that it didn't work last time..." addiction literally consumes your soul and it's all you can think about! No one wakes up one day and says I want to be an alcoholic,or addicted to heroin, cocaine, opiates,or m**h for the rest of my life... So today more than ever, I pray for the healing of addiction for all that are still struggling. Think of someone you love who has had an addiction or who is trying to fight this evil whether winning or losing. I hope to see continuous efforts towards recovery.
Listen ......
When a patient is experiencing an acute mental health crisis, especially in the midst of severe depression, suicidal ideation, psychosis, or emotional instability, judgment and impulse control can be heavily impaired. And when somebody is managing insulin-dependent diabetes with a personal insulin pump, that device isn’t just medical equipment it’s life-or-death chemistry in real time.
An insulin pump has the power to deliver:
too much insulin, which can drop blood sugar dangerously fast and become fatal
too little insulin, which can trigger a diabetic emergency like DKA
So during a crisis, removing the pump is a safety measure, not a punishment.
It allows trained professionals to step in, stabilize blood sugars safely, and protect patients until they’re mentally stable enough to self-manage again. The goal is harm prevention, not control.
You can’t treat the mind if the body is crashing.
As healthcare professionals, we have to protect both medical and mental safety. It’s about preserving life, dignity, and the chance to recover.
Sometimes love looks like intervention.
Sometimes safety means stepping in for a moment
so someone can step back into their power later. 💜
If you ever wonder why certain protocols exist, trust the intention: safety first, always.
