Microlocks (and locs in general) aren’t typically supposed to be shiny because shine usually indicates product buildup or excess oil — which can actually work against the health and locking process of the hair.

Light doesn’t reflect on it like how it does for straight hair either. Remember, locking requires friction. Too much slip or smoothness slows down the locking process.

If you want healthy microlocks, focus on moisture, not shine. Use light water-based sprays. Aloe, rose water and essential oils are okay with me. Please, please, please stay away from creams and thick oils. Shampoo regularly because your scalp is still skin, and wouldn’t go that long without washing your b***y 😉
