Gentle reminder not to push yourself to a breaking point in order to present a spotless house or perfect meal for family this week. Those who matter won't care and those who care don't matter. I was just talking to a friend about struggling with pushing ourselves to perfectionism and I thought a lot of us might be in the same boat. Please remember to take yourself into consideration this holiday season. Self care is self love đ

My trauma informed yoga training is through YogaFit for Warriors 140 hours of cutting-edge, expert-facilitated training. While trauma can take away a feeling of safety and choice, this type of yoga uses language that gives YOU the ability to make your own choices about how or when you move your body. This helps reconnect with a sense of safety allowing your brain to rewire and start to heal.
Once I learned this type of yoga, my thought wasâthis is the ONLY way to teach yoga. Because why should someone else adjust you into their version of anything (of course there are suggestions for staying safe), or bark orders out like youâre in a boot camp? You are the only one who should be in charge of your yoga. Itâs your practice.
Language matters. Choice matters. Consent matters.

Repost from Trauma impacts much more than just our prefrontal cortex or our behavioral activation system. It impacts our whole beingâand it must be treated from a whole being perspective. Importantly, any legitimate trauma treatment must consider all of our beingâthe entirety of our body-mindânot just our thoughts and behaviors, alone.
Remembering the Body
There are many brave researchers and practitioners who have made important contributions to our understanding of how to treat trauma. One of the most useful models for understanding how to understand trauma comes from Peter Levine's conceptualization of the constituents of phenomenological experience that he has memorialized through the catchy acronym, SIBAM, and his work of Somatic ExperiencingÂź.
