How do YOU pray?

My 4 year old had dental surgery today. We prepped her well, told her step by step what would happen, let her talk it out and ask questions. But the whole scenario had me thinking about how In years past I would have prayed for her safety, that there wouldn’t be a root canal, that she wouldn’t be scared.

Basically I would have prayed for an easy road.

But today I realized that isn’t how I pray anymore. Today when I prayed, I placed my hand on my baby and pulled her close, listened to her heartbeat, smelled her hair, kissed her cheeks. And while I did this I was willing my positive energy towards her being. And though I was never taught to pray this way, it feels so deeply spiritual to me, so connected to God.

I no longer am asking for an easy road because I am realistic about what life may bring, but I am asking for peace, wisdom, the eyes to see what’s in front of me, ability to connect with others, the bravery to trust myself and to seek the help that’s needed.
