Moving on to one of the nastiest ingredients. You’ll rarely see them listed but they’re commonly found in your personal care products and even children’s toys. ⁣

According to the FDA, the FLPA requires ingredients to be disclosed on the label, “however the regulations do not require the listing of individual fragrance items”, in other words if you want to avoid phthalates, avoid anything with “fragrance” or “parfum” on the label at all costs. ⁣

Unfortunately this requirement to disclose ingredients does NOT apply to professional products- so salon workers, beware and perhaps look into a detox if you’re exposed to unknown chemicals repeatedly.

Let’s talk about a very irritating ingredient- literally. Methylisothiazolinone (methylchloroisothiazolinone or mi).

This preservative has seen a surge in usage since ⁣
parabens have become public enemy number one- more on those later. But in the past several years, many “natural”, “green” brands boasting label claims like free and clear have been using this ingredient. It’s fairly common on products found at even health food stores- it’s commonly used in shampoo, conditioner and even baby wipes. ⁣

In my experience, this is the number one cause I’ve seen for rashes, cracking fingers and has brought me a fair amount of now faithful clients due to the lack of methylisothiazolinone free products on the market.⁣

You can also build up a sensitivity over time and repeated exposure. This is one to swap out!
