What the Spanish Steps taught me about aging in America vs Europe 🇮🇹
Standing here on the Spanish Steps in Rome (all 135 of them!), I had one of my biggest ah-ha moments of our Italy trip.
What I witnessed: People in their 70s and 80s effortlessly climbing these steps. Carrying groceries up steep hills. Hiking cobblestone streets. Lifting great-grandchildren with ease.
What struck me: This isn't what we typically see in America.
The difference? Europeans integrate movement into daily life. They walk to markets, climb stairs as transportation, and view physical activity as living, not just ""exercise.""
Meanwhile, we drive everywhere, take elevators, and then wonder why we feel weak as we age.
This moment changed my perspective completely.
I don't lift heavy weights just to look good in photos. I exercise and build muscle NOW so that when I'm 85, I can still: ✨ Climb the Spanish Steps without hesitation
✨ Travel the world with confidence
✨ Dance all night at any age ✨ Remain vibrant, strong, and independent
Every rep I do today is an investment in my future self. Every time I choose the stairs over the elevator, I'm practicing for the adventures I want to have in my 80s.
Aging is optional when you prepare for it.
The question isn't whether you'll get older – it's whether you'll get stronger.

I never thought I'd say this... but 57 feels like the beginning, not the middle 🎂
Today I'm 57 and I have never been more optimistic about life in my entire existence.
Sometimes I sit back and think about what I'd tell my 30-year-old self (with this delicious guava mocktail):
💔 Relationships: Don't settle. Wait for your person (even if he doesn't show up until you're 52!)
🏃♀️ Self-care: Stop wearing "stressed-out" as a badge of honor. Rest is productive. Burnout isn't brave.
💪 Workouts: Ditch the endless cardio and lift heavy NOW. Your future self will thank you.
🥩 Nutrition: Skip the 8 years of vegetarian and 2 years of vegan. I had the highest body fat of my entire life! Protein-forward is the way to go.
But here's the beautiful thing - every single experience led me exactly where I needed to be.
From pharmaceutical research to helping thousands of women reach their health goals, to founding one of the most progressive healthy aging companies that's literally Changing the Way Women Age - every step was preparation for this moment.
At 57, I'm:
✨ Stronger than I was at 35
✨ Married to my soulmate Paul

The plot twist? I wouldn't change a thing. Every struggle, every "mistake," every detour brought me to this life that feels almost too good to be true.

When you’re 56, committed to whole foods, and still need a fast weeknight dinner… these 15-minute chicken fajitas are my go-to 🌶️🔥 No grains, no garbage just clean, colorful, protein-packed goodness.
The secret? Skipping store-bought seasoning and making your own—no hidden sugars or fillers, just bold flavor and anti-inflammatory spices.

Europeans get it…
Every day in Europe we:
🚶♀️ Walked over 20,000 steps
🍝 Ate fresh, delicious, whole food (yes—even homemade pasta and bread!)
🌬️ Breathed in clean, unpolluted air
😴 Slept 8–9 hours each night
🫶 Connected with others through meaningful conversations and shared meals
😂 Laughed, lounged, and loved without guilt
❤️ And completely fell in love with the rhythm of a slower, richer life

🥗 Easy Mixed Greens Salad 🥑
Ingredients:
4 cups mixed greens 🥬
1 cup cherry tomatoes 🍅
1 cucumber 🥒
1/2 red onion 🧅
1 avocado 🥑
1/4 cup crumbled feta cheese 🧀
1/4 cup toasted nuts 🌰
Dressing:
3 tbsp olive oil 🫒
1 tbsp balsamic vinegar 🧴
1 tsp Dijon mustard 🍯
1 tsp honey 🍯
Salt & pepper to taste 🧂
Instructions:
Combine salad ingredients in a bowl.
Whisk dressing ingredients until well combined.
Drizzle dressing over salad & toss gently.
Serve immediately & enjoy! 😋
