LETS TALK ABOUT IT!
I feel this topic comes up a lot and it's a more common issue simply because people just are not educated enough. The difference between Dandruff and Dry Scalp.
Dandruff and dry Scalp can sometimes be confused due to similar symptoms, but they are actually different conditions:
1. Dandruff is a common Scalp condition caused by the overgrowth of a funguscalled Malasszezia. It leads to the Scalp shedding excess skin cells, resulting in visible flakes that are often white or yellowish in color. Dandruff cam be accompanied by itchiness and irritation.
2. Dry Scalp occurs when the skin on the Scalp lacks moisture. It can be caused by factors such as cold weather, using harsh hair products, or washing hair too frequently. Dry Scalp can also lead to flakes but are usually smaller and whiter compared to the larger, oil flakes of dandruff. Dry Scalp may also cause itching and tightness of the Scalp.
While both conditions may result in flaking and itching, dandruff is primarily caused by a fungal overgrowth, while dry scalp is due to lack of moisture. Treatment may vary depending of the specific conditions. It's important to identify the cause more accurately for effective management.
If you are unsure what to use for your condition. Please ask a professional Hairstylist or Dermatologist for more extreme cases.
