This week I wrote multi-page appeals to overturn insurance denials for:

Stage 3 chronic kidney disease.
Diabetic nephropathy.
Obesity worsening renal decline.
FDA-approved dosing of a generic ARB.

Not experimental.
Not cosmetic.
Not outside guidelines.

Evidence-based, organ-protective care.

Instead of accepting a denial, I:
– Cited KDIGO guidelines
– Documented foreseeable renal harm
– Requested credential disclosure of the reviewing physician
– Demanded peer-to-peer review with appropriate specialists

Because when a patient’s kidneys are on the line, “computer says no” is not an acceptable answer.

Telmisartan is inexpensive.
Dialysis is not.

GLP-1 therapy reduces progression.
Hospitalizations cost more.

Appeals take hours.
Hours that aren’t reimbursed.
Hours after clinic.
Hours most patients never see.

But this is what advocacy looks like.

I will not quietly downgrade care because an algorithm flags a cost.

✨ ≈30g protein
✨ ≈13g fiber
✨ ≈440 calories per serving (with tortillas)

🥑 Ingredients (Serves 2)
1 block (14 oz) extra‑firm tofu, drained, pressed dry in paper towels & crumbled
½ onion, diced
1 green bell pepper, diced
¼ cup nutritional yeast
½–1 tsp paprika (smoked or regular)
½ tsp cumin
½ tsp chili powder
½ tsp garlic powder
Salt to taste

Side:

1 cup canned black beans (rinsed)
½ tsp liquid smoke*
4 small corn tortillas (2 per serving)
Fresh cilantro (optional)

🔥 Directions
1️⃣ Sauté onion + bell pepper until soft.
2️⃣ Add crumbled tofu + spices + salt. Cook 5–7 minutes.
3️⃣ Stir in nutritional yeast; cook 1–2 more minutes.
4️⃣ Warm black beans with liquid smoke + pinch salt.
5️⃣ Serve with 2 corn tortillas and top with fresh cilantro.

✅ Per serving:
≈29–30g protein
≈44–48g carbs
≈11–13g fiber
