Oh hey girl!!

I wanted to share this selfie from today. I’m on day 33 of my detox from refined, processed carbs, toxic seed oils and alcohol. I don’t have a defined timeline on this, but one goal I have in mind is to stay super clean until I land in Jackson, Wyoming for a work trip in March, where I will then eat and drink my way through the whole town twice. 😹

I share the selfie to bench mark my progress, hold myself accountable, and acknowledge that even in the fluorescent lighting of the convention center I was working at today, with a 8 minute makeup on, I look good in this raw selfie. I mean, I like, can see my progress.

I absolutely want a drink! Although the processed carbs, sugar and seed oils, I could totally live without. I very much miss the ritual of wine or cocktails to wind down at the end of the day or to catch up with friends. But for now, Pandora’s box will remain closed while I focus on accomplishing some of my health and fitness and mindset goals.

I thank my Husband for inspiring me to get to this place. When he told me in December, he wanted to do something extreme in January, I told him that was a terrible idea. 😹 I was not looking forward to it but I rallied in support of him as he simultaneously supported me. Thank you my love!

And oh yeah! Yay me!!

I want to take a moment to say thank you to for sending me the brand new Mushroom Milk better aging eye cream. It pairs so nicely with my absolute favorite, the Oh! Mega Milk fermented barrier boosting facial oil. I love the way these products comfort and hydrate my skin. Thank Beekman 1802 and for these awesome skincare products.

My selects from our photo shoot we had today of Brownie in her new rain coat.

We’ve had so much rain over the last many months here in Southern California and every time it rains I get mad at myself for not having ordered her a raincoat. Well, rain is in the forecast on Thursday and in the coming weeks, and Brownie is ready.

Brownie is ripped and is absolutely obsessed with playing ball, and is an accomplished cuddler. I lovingly nicknamed her because she is cray cray for fetch. I thought she deserved a little appreciation post and an introduction for those of you who have not yet had the pleasure of meeting her.

You can meet her typically at my hair studio in Bellflower, CA on Thursdays.

Angus Mitchell made a huge impression on me when I met him at the Paul Mitchell Symposium, where this picture was taken in 2011, I think.

I remember mustering up the courage to approach him and ask him for a picture, (which in my opinion was still a big deal in those days) which he graciously obliged. I will never forget the kindness he treated me with, it was brief, but impactful. I felt so special and of value that he would step away from what he was doing to take picture with me. At that time in my life I was an insecure young stylist eager to make “the right” impression while defining my path in the hairdressing community, which can be an intimadating and pretentious place, depending on where a person is in their life and the company that they keep.

Thank you for your kindness Angus, it made a lasting impression on me personally and professionally and has helped me define the legacy I hope to leave behind someday, to help people feel better than I found them. You didn’t even know you made that impression on me, but you did and I am grateful that one little interaction could bring so much value to my life.

So yeah, I can only imagine the pain and the loss those you have actually known in your life are feeling now that you have moved beyond this realm.

Sending so much love out to the family and friends of Angus, and to my professional hairdressing community who I know are deeply mourning your passing. As am I.
