🖤🌿 Field Notes from an Unhinged Hairstylist 🌿🖤
I’ve spent a lot of time observing people lately.
🌲 Not judging. Just… standing quietly in the metaphorical tree line like a suspicious woodland creature with excellent pattern recognition.
And I’ve noticed something fascinating. 🧐
The fear of change, but not because it changed, but because that thing that changed was the only secure thing left in one’s life. The one thing that would remain “unchanged”.
People will tell you to “be yourself,” then immediately become uncomfortable when you do.
Or carrying around emotional support grudges from 2007 like their family heirlooms.
☝🏽complaining about drama while personally hauling it from location to location like a traveling Renaissance fair.
And perhaps my favorite:
👏🏽 People will call someone “too much” when they finally put the mask down 🎭 after spending decades rewarding everyone for being too little, and now they don’t fit the agenda. The audacity of someone NOT fitting into your cute little box 👏🏽That looks👏🏽Like every👏🏽One else’s👏🏽
Anyway.
🐦⬛ The crows are watching.
🌳 The trees know things.
🦝 The raccoons have abandoned governance entirely.
🌺 As for me, I’m over here in swampy grassland, sipping iced coffee and collecting behavioral data like a Victorian naturalist who got lost at a therapy convention.
I remain elegantly unhinged.
Not because the world is chaotic.
Because I’ve seen the world, and this seems like this is the appropriate amount of hingedness. 🐦⬛✨🖤
Oh ya. Book an appointment. Let’s talk about it.

🕯️We haven’t gotten too philosophical lately, happy Sunday, here’s some brain stew 🧠
I’ve been reading Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Wall Kimmerer and this woman is now living rent free in my think box. 🌱
🐢 Robin reflects on her childhood memories and stories of her ancestors, telling the story of Sky Woman, turtle, mouse, and geese, reciprocity, gift economies, and the audacity of humans to put a barcode on things the Earth made without asking for a quarterly earnings report or the help of bodies with thumbs. Air? Water? Strawberries 🍓 growing feral in a ditch somewhere? Nobody invented those. Nobody “earned” a sunset. 🌅
🌰 She talks about this deep understanding that survival was once collaborative instead of competitive. That abundance isn’t ownership. That taking and giving were supposed to exist in balance instead of whatever spiritually dehydrated speedrun we’re doing now.
The more I sit with it, the more I understand that gratitude has changed the way I move through the world. I notice abundance differently. These are things I had the opportunity to give words to in 2020 after a long hospital stay (iykyk), a way of life I got to cultivate and now I get to nurture.
💰 I do hair for money because we unfortunately still live under capitalism and my mortgage company won’t accept ethically sourced berries and handmade baskets as payment 🧺.
But I also think there’s a difference between labor and extraction. We may have discussed this before too..
I think there’s a way to move through life linearly. ✨ Slowly. Intentionally. Taking what you need. Leaving things better. 📕 Sharing knowledge freely when you can. Refusing overconsumption as a personality trait. Building community instead of audiences. Treating people like ecosystems instead of transactions 🌍.
Maybe that’s why I get so feral about overconsumption and hustle culture and treating human beings like content farms with credit scores. We were not built to live like open browser tabs.
Anyway. Happy Sunday. Drink water 💧 . Thank a tree 🌲 . Tip your hairstylist. Consider becoming emotionally available to moss. 🍃 and DEFINITELY, touch some grass.

👉🏽 Do it.
The thing. 👈🏽
The thing you’ve been overthinking, side-eyeing 👀 , making pros-and-cons lists about, consulting the moon 🌖 , your best friend, three podcasts, and a crow that looked at you funny 🐦⬛.
Do it.
🗑️ Throw it away.
🔥 Burn it down.
🚪 Walk out.
🌱 Start over.
Or don’t start over. Sometimes the point of setting something on fire is simply refusing to carry it anymore.
🧚🏻♀️ This is me, your local bog-witch, swamp fairy, mildly unhinged hairstylist, officially granting permission to release whatever has been renting space in your head for free.
🤫 No explanation required.
✔️ You do not owe a dissertation.
✔️You do not owe a PowerPoint presentation.
✔️You do not owe anyone a twelve-part documentary explaining why you’ve chosen yourself.
👏🏽Take your permission and go.
Whether you’re channeling Dobby sock-in-hand freedom or Gollum hissing “mine” while reclaiming your peace, the outcome is the same:
💋You get to be gloriously, unapologetically feral.
🥪 Whatever has been eating your lunch? Take it back 🍴.
🚗 Whatever has been keeping you stuck? Move.
💭 Whatever has been whispering “what if?” for months?
Answer it.
… I’d rather collect a few “oops” stories than spend my life haunted by “what if.”
And when you’re done, come sit in my chair and tell me all about it.
I want to hear about the brave tea ☕️
👏🏽Take your permission. You have it now.

📢This one is for you, from Sierra With the Scissors, known lately as simply, The Swamp 🧝🏽♀️
👉🏽 it appears I have openings today and tomorrow 🤭
🪞 So if you’ve been staring at yourself in the mirror thinking, “Eh, that’ll probably sort itself out,” I regret to inform you that your hair has filed an appeal.
I’ve noticed that people will spend six months tolerating split ends, grown-out color, and a shampoo bottle held together by hope, spite, and the last remaining molecules of conditioner—but making the appointment? Apparently that’s where we draw the line 🛑
Friends.
The world is on fire 🔥
The grocery bill looks like a hostage note 📝
🦝 There are raccoons out there with better retirement plans than most of us.
📱 Book the hair appointment.
Get the trim. Refresh the color. Do the treatment. Allow yourself one tiny act of maintenance in a timeline that increasingly resembles a group project nobody wanted.
I’ve got room this Sunday and a couple spots on Monday.
💈 Come sit in my chair. Tell me about your latest hyperfixation, existential crisis, neighborhood gossip, or the strange thing you found growing in the back of the refrigerator.
I’ll handle the hair 💇🏽♀️
💻 book with me and claim your spot before the calendar remembers it’s supposed to be chaotic. ✨

💕 oh, we’re all still here💕
✂️ The hair cryptid has emerged from the woods and, against all odds, I actually have a handful of openings for new clients in June.
So if your bangs are holding emotional support status, your color looks like a home renovation accident, or your hair has been through “a lot lately,” this is your sign 🪧 .
🦹🏽♀️Come get feral.
🧑🏾🎤Come get refreshed.
👩🏽🎤Come sit in my chair and tell me your villain origin story while I make you hotter and slightly more powerful.
Limited spots available before I disappear back into my backyard bog with my scissors and iced coffee 🧙🏽♀️

💜 This one is for my thems, my fems, my g**s and my theys, and a little bit of remembrance to the Queen that raised me. If it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t be half the woman I get to be today.
🦄Time for trivia🌈
🥊 Did you know Pride Month is celebrated in June because it honors the 1969 Stonewall uprising in New York City — when q***r and trans folks finally got tired of being harassed, arrested, brutalized, and treated like society’s emotional support punching bag? Crazy right?
🏳️🌈 Black and brown trans women, drag queens, street kids, le****ns, and gay activists were in that fight, they were the backbone. Not corporations. Not Target seasonal merchandising. PEOPLE. Parents, siblings, cousins, aunties and uncles, young humans, PEOPLE.
Put respect on names like:
✨ Marsha P. Johnson
✨ Sylvia Rivera
✨ Miss Major Griffin-Gracy
And while we’re here:
Black trans folks have BEEN carrying movements like these on their backs while simultaneously being asked to survive systems actively trying to erase them for more than just being q***r. They told us. They showed us. They tried to prepare us… think about that, when you think about how scary it is to be here 👇🏽 right now.
… but wait ☝🏽 there’s more!
📚 LGBTQ History Month is actually in OCTOBER, it was created in 1994 by Missouri high school teacher Rodney Wilson. October was chosen because:
🍂 schools are in session
🍂 National Coming Out Day is October 11
🍂 and it gave space to TEACH q***r history instead of pretending q***r people spontaneously spawned into existence during disco or the current administration.
So. Quick recap.
One is:
🔥 protest
🔥 visibility
🔥 survival
🔥 community
The other is:
📖 education
📖 remembrance
📖 historical recognition
📖 making sure future generations know the LGTBQIA+ community existed before Netflix subscriptions (I should also add, that this visibility is still lacking and is something that could be better addressed, and not with how mainstream propaganda and policy is doing so, but I digress…)
Anyway. Happy Pride!
Read banned books. Ask questions. Be kind.
Hydrate. Wear sunscreen. Protect trans kids. Respect q***r elders. And remember:
The first Pride was a riot, a fight for equality, not a marketing campaign. 🌈🔥
💕 And to my uncle, you are missed, I hope you’re smiling down on us niños, Happy Mother’s Day, Happy Father’s Day, and Happy Pride. May your lip gloss always be poppin 💄

I had some hair to post. Buuuuut no 👎🏼. We’re not doing that. I’m here to complain.
🌟 Friendly reminder that I am, in fact, a cosmetologist. Not a content creator. Not a lifestyle influencer. Not a photographer. Not a ring light enthusiast. Not a circus performer.
I have a biz Facebook exclusively to:
• run my mouth
• maybe a little too much
• occasionally yell into the void
• refer people when I can
• spread whimsical salon propaganda about me, Sierra, to ETx and surrounding, because I’m annoying.
📸 If you ask me for a photos of my work, no. That’s weird. I’ve always thought it’s weird. And I will always think it’s weird, while probably covered in toner, running on caffeine, and being spiritually held together by one singular bobby pin because my locs are up too tight and I’m ready for a snacky, no time for nonsense, I been doing hair all day.
👉🏽And that’s what it is. Nonsense. Personal rant here: I left a couple of your community Facebook groups because I can’t with the hypocritical cruelty. I’ve never seen so many people simultaneously send prayer hands and thoughts and prayers whilst bashing someone else for asking for help. Prayer hands don’t pay the tab, Karen. I can’t hug it out with the utility company.
In short, I have no time for pictures, or cruelty for that matter! You just gotta truuuuuusttt, my dude. I’m not from here. I work different. ✂️ I’m a person of my word 🤷🏽♀️
🔥 My job is making people hot. Everything else is community service, including giving away my old salon towels to a family in need. 💋
If you made it this far and any of this offended you. Congratulations. You may be part of the problem. If you’re not offended, you may be my kind of human. Here’s my number, let’s talk about it:
🤳253.202.1531
🎁 Remember those posts about packages? Yeah. The ‘come sit in my chair and let me aggressively care about your hair integrity’ packages, the “let’s talk about it” ☎️ packages?
🧚♂️ Contrary to popular belief, Sierra With the Scissors is not just here to send you home with hair that looks better than you thought possible and a serotonin boost.
I’m also here to teach you why your 🌊water is acting like a jealous ex, why your hot tools are betraying you, and why East Texas sunshine🌞 is out here oxidizing and keratinizing your ashy blondes like a competitive sport 🏊♀️ (this is me hoping those golden blonde highlights I see more often than not wasn’t intentional 😬).
🤔 Scalp health. Hair health. At-home color care. Product education. Heat protection. UV protection. Water quality. The mysterious science of why your hair “suddenly stopped working.”
🪞 You’re probably used to “you’re soooo pretty,” which I’ll give you, absolutely… but…
I’m also handing you a tiny cosmetology TED Talk and a survival guide for your bathroom routine.
💵 You’re not just paying for hair.
👩🏽🎓 You’re paying for forbidden knowledge, whimsical follicular lore, and the ability to stop raw-dogging your color in hard water and soon to be 94° sunshine (let’s not forget, we’ve been lingering around 85°, off and on the last few weeks).
👉🏽Anyway. Book your appointments.
👉🏽Moisturize, inside AND out.
🤌🏽Fear your showerhead a little.
And remember. You ARE bonita.

🦊Sticking to that feral tone you have all begun to expect from me:
We are, in fact, living in the twilight zone 🐸
✨ So you might as well have good hair while this timeline is doing… whatever this is ✨
📆 like—if reality is glitching, why are you still booking one-off appointments like it’s 2012?
Be so serious.
I made ✨packages✨ for a reason:
less chaos, more consistency, and your hair stays looking like you have your life together (even if you’re spiritually just a floating frog in the void).
👀 Go peek at them.
💍 Commit to yourself.
🌹 Romanticize your maintenance.
Or don’t… and keep raw-dogging your regrowth. Your choice.
👉🏽 I just made it easier for you 👈🏽

✂️ Come get your hair done, your spirit refreshed, and your sense of mischief fully reactivated. We are leaning into duality, delight, and just enough unhinged joy to keep things interesting. Because why not?!!
