Another approach to channel cutting!

This week I’m using a soft “C” shape to create natural movement and remove weight without compromising the overall shape of the haircut.

Channel cutting is one of my favorite ways to create movement and softness in the hair without taking away the overall shape. It helps the hair separate naturally so it doesn’t feel too heavy or bulky.
The technique I’m using here: I pinch about 1 inch of the section, hold it at a 45° angle, and remove more weight toward the ends. This keeps the shape intact while creating that soft, lived-in movement!

Tuesday’s Tip!

When dry cutting clients' hair, pay attention to density, especially below the occipital bone where it's often thinner. This matters when disconnecting and channel cutting to avoid making hair appear more fine. More info to come next week Tuesday’s Tip about channel cutting!

Tuesday’s Tip

When cutting the Hush Cut, I prefer using a large comb to control the section at the back below the occipital bone. When cutting the back section, following the head shape helps achieve a perfect 135° angle when bringing everything up.

Listen to the hair! When working on the back section of my signature Hush Cut, I let the hair speak to me about where to begin the guideline. With thin or damaged hair, I allow certain strands to fall away to cut at a precise 135-degree angle.
