The older I get, the more I realize that business isn’t just business.

It’s self-awareness.

It’s emotional regulation.

It’s communication.

It’s boundaries.

It’s healing.

It’s learning how to manage the parts of yourself that nobody sees.

For years, I thought certain things were personality flaws.

Why was I overwhelmed so easily?
Why did some tasks feel impossible?
Why could I show up for everyone else but struggle to show up for myself?

The answer wasn’t a lack of ambition.
It wasn’t laziness.
And it definitely wasn’t a lack of care.

Sometimes the thing standing between where we are and where we want to be isn’t more discipline, it’s understanding ourselves.

The beauty industry has taught me that your gifts will open doors, but your self-awareness determines how long you stay in the room.

This conversation may make some people uncomfortable, but I think it’s one we need to have.

Especially as Black women.

Especially as entrepreneurs.

Especially as people who are often expected to carry everything while making it look easy.
