After a Brazilian, the skin is freshly exfoliated and the follicles have just been stressed by hair removal.

At that point, the goal of post-wax care should be supporting skin recovery and minimizing irritation.

So why is oil still one of the most common finishing products?

While oils can make the skin feel soft and comfortable immediately after waxing, they also create an occlusive layer on freshly waxed skin.

Now add:
🔥 heat
💦 sweat
👖 tight clothing
🦠 bacteria
and recently emptied follicles.

And you’ve created conditions that many ingrown-prone clients don’t need.

Does oil automatically cause ingrown hairs?
No.

Does every client react negatively to oil?
Of course not.

But “it feels nice” and “it’s the best option for freshly waxed skin” are two very different things.

This is why many professionals prefer lightweight, soothing, non-comedogenic post-wax products designed to calm the skin without creating additional occlusion.

have we accepted this practice because it’s the best option or simply because it’s what the industry has been doing for years?

This question came up during one of Waxing Queen Adventures education sessions, and it’s one every waxer faces sooner or later.

Some waxers will do one more cleanup strip.

Others will stop, protect the skin, and educate the client instead.

Neither choice is automatically right. It depends on the client’s skin, hair growth, and what you’re seeing in front of you.

The important part? Setting expectations before the first wax so your client understands that hair grows in different cycles—and that the best results come after consistent appointments, not endless cleanup strips.
