I cannot stress how important post-op care is after liposuction, bbl or tummy tuck. You might ask why is it so important? First off what is a post- operative massage? A post-op massage is a gentle form of massage that increases blood flow and promotes recovery by targeting the lymphatic system. The lymphatic system helps process waste and absorbs fluids. After surgery these fluids can harden, which is often painful. A massages after surgery can help improve recovery. Surgery has many negative effects including pain, scarring and swelling that can slow down or prevent recovery. A massage helps to improve recovery by encouraging an increase in blood flow and draining excess fluid surgery. What happens if you don’t get massages after lipo? The post-surgical lymphedema is. Aided by inflammation and trauma from the cannula moving under the skin… without lymphatic massage the inflammation can evolve into fibrosis (a permanent hardening of the tissue) or a seroma (pocket of serum can form. Or even worse necrosis (tissue that dies). I’ve seen them all in clients. Sometimes it happens very soon after surgery & sometimes takes months. A nurse know when there is infection, fibrosis, seroma or necrosis. We know the look or the smell. We have been trained in school and by working in hospitals exactly what to look for. Do your homework on who your going to for post -op lymphatic drainage massages. We are all not trained the same. We as nurses have different trading and experiences. I for instance have been treating wound care for 16 years. There is nothing I haven’t treated or seen.
