According to brain health experts, Walnuts are especially good for the brain and considered the healthiest nuts. This is due to the amount of healthy fats, nutrients and antioxidants they contain, specifically vitamin E and polyphenols which are known for blocking the inflammation that prematurely ages the brain.

🧠 We know that diet plays a huge role when it comes to preventing “brain fog,” supporting long-term memory, and even helping to boost your mood.

🧠 According to many scientific studies, the best way to eat for brain health is to eat a plant heavy diet high in leafy greens, other vegetables, nuts and seeds, beans and legumes, whole grains, fish, olive oil and fruits, and berries.

🧠 Nuts and seeds in particular are incredibly good for brain health because they are high in fatty acids, vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants which all play crucial roles in supporting the brain.

🧠 In one study of 3,266 people over 65, people who ate nuts regularly had a 17 percent less risk of cognitive impairment than those who didn’t eat nuts regularly!

Eating a variety of fruits and vegetables is key for optimal health. 🫐🥑🥦🍎🧄🫑🥕When it comes to following a healthy diet, the more you change, the more you can improve. It is essentially in your hands or rather...on your plate. 🍽️

“We should all be eating fruits and vegetables as if our lives depend on it—because they do.” —Michael Greger, MD.

It has been recently reported that the World Health Organization’s cancer research agency, the International Agency for Research on Cancer, declared the artificial sweetener aspartame a possible carcinogen. Aspartame is in many foods, including in a majority of diet sodas. Carcinogens like aspartame can cause cancer by mutating cells' DNA.

⭐️ Caroline’s advice: Just use a little REAL sugar instead.

Current studies pair garlic with cancer prevention, due to an enzyme in garlic called alliinase. The enzyme alliinase produces allicin which is being linked to cancer prevention. But know that not all garlic is equal! To get this benefit from your garlic consumption, once you have chopped or crushed your garlic for cooking, let it sit for 10 minutes before cooking, allowing the alliinase to produce the allicin. 🧄

Mixed Messaging on Red Wine: Separating Myth from Fact 06/27/2023

Red wine has often been touted as a heart-healthy choice, but in actuality, alcohol of any kind has a direct link to an increase in cancer. However fewer than 4 in 10 people are aware of the risk that it actually poses. This link should be of real concern especially to women since increased breast cancer risk begin with relatively low amounts of alcohol. While the risk of breast and esophageal cancers increases at even low levels of consumption, alcohol beyond moderation also raises the risk of cancers of the colorectum, stomach, liver, mouth, pharynx, and larynx.

The American Institute of Cancer Research (AICR) recommends against drinking any alcohol for cancer prevention, but if you chose to drink, they recommend very limited amounts. Read the link below for more information.

Mixed Messaging on Red Wine: Separating Myth from Fact Wine generally known as the heart-healthy choice among alcoholic beverages, but is it the right option for cancer prevention? We discuss alcohol and cancer here.

Rice can be found in pantries everywhere. But did you know that there are 40,000 varieties of rice world wide?

However, not all rice is created equal. According to Harvard’s T.H.
