When we first began working on Starlit Halo, the goal wasn’t to create another citrus fragrance. It was to understand what makes certain fresh compositions feel lighter and atmospheric on the skin, and then explore how far that feeling could be carried.

The opening came together around peach, grapefruit, lemon, and blackcurrant. Not as fruit in the usual sense, but as something more transparent, closer to citrus water. As the structure developed, we deliberately adjusted the citrus accords so the citrus would feel smoother and more diffused, allowing the grapefruit and lemon to keep their clarity while softening the sharper edges that usually define them.

The first unexpected shift came with carrot. It’s not a note you typically expect to see in a citrus composition, and here it wasn’t meant to appear as a recognizable scent on its own. We developed a carrot accord in-house for this fragrance and used it quietly in the background to support the clarity moving through the opening. Rather than smelling vegetal or earthy, it adds the kind of clean freshness you notice in freshly rinsed produce, like water moving over just-washed baby carrots. The moment it entered the structure, the citrus began to change direction. It stopped feeling like fruit and started to feel more open as it developed.

A faint dry brightness followed through the opening and helped the freshness stay suspended and clear as the fragrance continued to unfold.

As the fragrance begins to settle, amber and saffron start to move through the base. This is where the character of the fragrance becomes more visible. The opening now carries a soft warmth through it, and the citrus begins to feel less like fruit and more like a fresh, sweet, ethereal halo resting on the skin.

What surprised us most was how naturally the transition held together. The fragrance stayed clear from beginning to end, and the citrus gradually took on a softer warmth as the saffron and amber began to form the halo around it.

Starlit Halo became something we didn’t expect at the beginning. Not a citrus fragrance in the usual sense, but a softer, more luminous kind of clarity that feels closer to atmosphere than perfume.

Coming Tuesday, March 31st, Lost In Sweets Exclusif is for anyone drawn to bright candied fruits that slowly melt into spun sugar and marshmallow. It opens with raspberry, strawberry, and mandarin at once, like fruit glazed with sugar just before it begins to soften. As they settle, caramel and cotton candy begin to move through the center and the fragrance shifts away from bright fruit into something that feels more like spun sugar. Violet and marshmallow move in next and give the center a gentle cloud-like feeling that makes everything feel smoother as it wears. As it settles further, the bright candy fruit slowly turns into a warm vanilla sugar finish with soft woods underneath, like sweetness left in the air after caramel begins to melt. What began as sparkling fruit becomes a softer, warmer sweetness that stays with you long after the opening fades into memory.
