THINNING HAIR?....What's my problem? I am no doctor of course, but I can read and did some research for you. The question which I hear the most is, " I am seeing patches of thinning hair, and more of it in my shower or on my pillow in the morning. Are there any tests that I should undergo? I tried a vitamin supplement but it doesn't seem to have worked." Generally, if your hair is thinning rather than only in patches, there are two tests you should ask your GP about, start with this before going to any specialist. Check that you aren't anaemic first of all, then check for your thyroid gland. If it is underactive then this type of hair loss can occur. Most people with this condition, however, have normal tests and it seems to relate to non-specific hormonal disturbances which are not well understood. The only other thing to check is the health of the skin of the scalp because if there is a skin condition then the hair will be affected. If you are seeing unusual thinning of your hair, DO NOT wait, make an appointment with your doctor and get some answers as soon as you can!
