My job is more than just hair or beauty in general. It’s mentally exhausting but so rewarding when you turn that chair around and see a smile on their face. When they sit in my chair I have no idea if that appointment is gonna be one full of laughter to the point our stomachs are cramping, or tears being shed because they had to make that tough decision to shave their head due to chemo, or that this is their divorce hair and they finally feel like themselves for the first time in years.

This hair and this client I’ll always remember. Hearing her story hit home for me, and there was a point I was at a lost for words. She gave me free range to do whatever on her hair, all she wanted was something new and fresh. Even through all that pain she went through, the appointment was never a dull moment; she was able to be herself. At the end, tears were shed and hugs full of emotions were given, I knew she felt beautiful again.

I’m not perfect, I do make mistakes and wonder if this is the right path, but moments like these reminds me why I chose this career and why I’m so passionate about it. Creating art that helps make someone feel better about themselves pushes me to keep going.

It’ll always be more than just doing hair.
