The allergens have been very high in the falls this last week and we have seen numerous kids in office for runny nose, sneezing, and coughing. Please restart all allergy medicines if your child is experiencing any symptoms. If you need them to see a doctor, please feel free to call and schedule an appointment.

We've noticed lots of sensitive and irritated skin this week. This tends to happen when the air is very dry (hello all of us running our heaters non stop last week, fireplaces, etc). These spots tend to be itchy for your baby. We recommend decreased bathing as water can dry the skin out further, thick/ointment type lotion twice a day like aquafor or vaseline, and a regular dose of zyrtec or Claritin at bedtime if baby seems to be scratching. Humidifiers will help so much too! If the skin is still giving your baby troubles after this we would love to help with an office visit.

There is a tummy bug (i.e. viral gastroenteritis if you are fancy) going around in the younger population. The most important part of taking care of a sick baby/kid that has vomiting and/or diarrhea is to keep them hydrated. Do no force foods. It is okay not to eat as long as they are drinking. It is okay to give them their normal liquids, but sometimes clear fluids like pedialyte can be helpful to replace all of the electrolytes and sugar they are loosing. Reasons to seek care:
1. Cannot hold down even small sips of fluid.
2. Less than 3 urines in 24 hours.
3. Severe tummy pain that is only worsening
4. More than 10 days of diarrhea
5. Blood in either the vomit or diarrhea.
We hope this helps!

It's that time of year again to protect the skin. Did you know that sunburns in the first years of life have the biggest impact on future cancer risk? We recommend applying at least spf 30 sunblock 20 minutes before the littles go outside and every 2 hours after.
