How do YOU work on the hamstrings??
The hamstrings used to actually be my least favorite muscle group to work on because I felt like there wasn’t much you could do with them. But, once I accepted that it got much better! I used to want all of the fun techniques for every muscle group but you don’t always need that to be effective.
I mainly use my elbows/forearms in this area and focus on long holds.
The scapula can be tricky because we need it to have both mobility AND stability.
Once we start to lose mobility in the scapula, other areas of the body start to suffer, so don’t neglect this area!
1) I think I can speak for most of us when I say we prefer the term ‘massage therapist’ over ‘masseuse.’ I don’t personally get offended when someone calls me a masseuse because most people don’t understand the difference fully, but some massage therapists I’ve talked to find it offensive. We went to school for this and have the proper training. We’re massage therapists 😊
2) I will not get offended if you request more or less pressure. I will communicate with you throughout the session but always let me know on your own if you need me to adjust!
3) If you fall asleep, that is totally fine. I will still be doing quality work.
Working around the SCAPULA!
1) We’re focusing on pushing TOWARD the medial border of the scapula
2) We’re pulling on the lateral border of the scapula. This can be tough to do on some clients, especially very muscularly dense ones, so just focus on the scapula itself and not all extra tissue surrounding it.
If you have clients who are extremely muscular, I’ve found the sidelying position gives you so much more access to the upper traps.
Which is your go to??
It’s also easier to work into the neck this way if you have a client who is heavier or someone with a lot of muscle mass.
Most clients with neck/shoulder pain come in and immediately point to their traps as the culprit. While there’s manyyyy other muscle groups that most likely need to get addressed to really get rid of their pain, I love starting off their sessions like this to give them that ✨immediate✨ relief!
Working on the body is COMPLEX, that is for sure. But, sometimes a quick assessment can help so much!
Chest work is SO necessary for people who work at a computer all day!
A lot of people feel tension in their upper back but the real culprit is usually coming from the pecs. Don’t neglect them! ゚viralシ
