How to choose the best toothbrush?

As we all know, we brush our teeth every day to keep our mouth clean and healthy. But with so many different kinds of toothbrushes on supermarket shelves, how do you choose?

In fact, many patients have this question.

On the shelves of supermarkets and pharmacies, you will find a wide range of toothbrushes, including hard, medium or soft, cross bristles, whitening toothbrushes, vibrating toothbrushes, electric toothbrushes, and toothbrushes that connect to mobile apps via Bluetooth, to name a few. No wonder people are so confused! And, more importantly, prices range from A $2 to A $200. In fact, if you don't brush your teeth in the right way, or spend enough time, it doesn't matter how expensive it is to buy a toothbrush.

The most important thing when choosing a toothbrush is: softness! Soft! Soft! We brush our teeth every day to get rid of food scraps and the remnants of bacteria, as well as the "plaque" (a texture like wet bread) where bacteria live. However, plaque is not destroyed by liquid cleaners (i.e., mouthwash doesn't work) and is easily brushed off with a soft brush. If you brush too hard or use medium - and hard-bristled toothbrushes, you will irreversibly damage your enamel and gums. Over time, your enamel will become thin and your gums will recede, making your teeth extremely sensitive.

More than half of teeth are sensitive during a regular dental examination, due to overbrushing or using a hard toothbrush.

So, what kind of toothbrush is good?

In general, manual toothbrushes work on the same principle as electric toothbrushes. It's important that you keep brushing for two minutes and brush all the places where bacteria accumulate, especially the connection between the teeth and the gum (the gum line). The biggest advantage of electric toothbrush is that the head of electric toothbrush makes it easier to clean teeth. Most electric toothbrushes come with a two-minute timer to ensure you have enough time to brush. If you choose to use an electric toothbrush, please do not brush too hard, as too hard will cause your tooth enamel to thin.
