Be separate from the noise. Be a melody of light: we are each other’s harmonies. For when the quiet is found in the silence, there is much to hear. Among the hush, there is an eternal voice that beckons us to sing our own songs. The quiet teaches us to be better listeners, to notice the peaceful presence of our souls. Tune out the noise, and allow the Earth to speak for herself. May we not be mute to her songs of daybreak: of growth and breath. The vibrations of life echo throughout the canyons of our spirits. Listen in.

It’s common knowledge that meditation is great for alleviating stress, but there are some benefits that many people don’t know about. Meditating on a daily basis can also help improve test scores. Researchers from UC Santa Barbara found that college students performed better on the verbal reasoning section of the GRE after meditating. It was also found that the students' memory improved.

Beyond improving memory and test scores, meditation has also been found to keep people healthier. Researchers from the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Health found that people who meditate regularly miss fewer days of work when they are sick. They also found that meditation decreases the severity of the symptoms of the common cold, and that illnesses don’t last as long.

Meditation can be different for everyone; some need a mantra to find their zen, others absolute silence, some need to imagine being in a place that is their idea of serenity, however you implement the power of this age-old practice I believe it to be an integral part of a healthy mind. Whatever it is that takes you to a peaceful place in your mind, I invite you to take at least five minutes of your day and focus on what brings you peace, and remember what it is that you’re thankful for. It’s easy to let day to day life distract your mind from the bigger picture. Take time to remember what it is you live for, and maybe with meditation you’ll find it easier to focus on what drives you to be the best you. And remember that it’s called a practice for a reason!

Aromatherapy is the use of essential oils to support health and well-being—whether that means cleaning the house, recovering from a cold, sleeping more soundly at night and lots of other benefits!

Essential oils are naturally produced by some aromatic plants. It’s fascinating how many different ways plants can produce essential oils. Vetiver essential oil is stored in the plant’s rootlets, so they are harvested to obtain the oil. Cedarwood essential oil comes from the tree’s wood, and Orange essential oil is primarily extracted from the rind of the fresh fruit. Lavender essential oil comes from Lavender flowers, but there’s usually also some of the young foliage included in the distillation too.

And do essential oils really work to support wellness? Yes!
Everything you use on or around your body will affect your body in one way or another. Aromatherapy is a natural way to support your body.

What is Aromatherapy good for? Here's the short list, Ready?

To get a good night’s sleep
To feel more energized during the day
To sharpen your mental focus and concentration (great for studying or taking a test!)
To feel more balanced and centered
To prevent colds and the flu
To recover quickly if you do get sick
To clear away congestion and mucus
To care for your skin
To calm inflammation (either on skin, in the respiratory system, or around an injury)
To relieve headaches
To support digestion
To reduce the presence of germs—whether they’re in your environment (you can make a natural cleaner for your kitchen!) or your “invironment!” (Try an essential oil inhaler to support your immune system.)
There are many options on how to use Aromatherapy.
A shorter list: 🙂

A popular one is diffusion. You can get an essential oil diffuser (there are numerous styles) and you would put a few drops of essential oil into it (as in a Nebulizer) or add the drops to distilled water placed in the diffuser's reservoir and turn it on for continuous or intermittent diffusion. The essential oil will fill the air in the room, making it smell natural and comforting. You’ll also be inhaling the essential oil and receiving its benefits that way. You can blend a few essential oils together to create your own unique diffuser blend as well. I recommend breathing in the aroma of your chosen oil's caps together to determine if you like the combination before you actually mix the oil blend.

You can blend essential oils into a carrier oil, like jojoba or avocado oil, and use it for skin care. Essential oils also blend into a denser natural carrier, like a natural body butter blend or skin cream. Definitely use plain unscented products that you will be adding an essential oil to.

Another way to use Aromatherapy is in a bath. This is so relaxing and therapeutic! Caution: not all oils are suitable for the bath as the in the case of peppermint. Great for a foot bath but not a good choice sensitive areas.

Another way you can inhale essential oils is to create an Aromatherapy inhaler. This is a perfect medium for getting the oils “to the scene of the action” if you have a cold or headache.

However you use Aromatherapy, it’s important to understand how to use essential oils safely.
Appropriate dilution rates for adults is at 1%, 2%, or 3% when making your blend. For example: That means that when you're making a pain relief blend in 1 oz (30 ml) of avocado oil, only use 15–18 drops of essential oil total (that’s a 3% blend). It doesn’t take much to do the job done!
****When using Aromatherapy for kids, use even less essential oil.) No more than 1/2 of that amount of essential oil in the full amount of carrier****

Aromatherapy is not the use of fragrance oils, which are created artificially in labs. Fragrance oils may smell nice, but they don’t offer the therapeutic benefits that essential oils do. It has been proven in studies that fragrance oils may even cause irritation, sensitizations, or allergies.

Essential oils are natural, plant-produced substances. And while some of them do come with safety concerns. Essential oils are powerful; please don’t use them carelessly. When you understand how to use them safely, they offer so many natural benefits.
Aromatherapy empowers you to live more naturally—to care for you and your family’s health without harsh ingredients or potentially toxic chemicals that can stress your immune system or throw your body’s systems out of balance. Essential oils help you maintain that balance plus support your immunity while you use them.
