In the art of living and in traditions, everything is interconnected and gradually forms a culture that shapes the way we live and depend on one another in our daily lives.
🫴🏼 Sampeah Pteum (the equal bow) marks the beginning of a new life and the foundation of a shared life structure. It signifies that even in hardship, both partners must endure and support one another, standing together until they are strong enough to rise.
The act of bowing together symbolizes that the man and woman are becoming a couple who will share their lives and time from this moment onward. The phrase “bowing side by side, lowering the head to the mat” represents one of the most important rituals in a traditional Khmer wedding. The mat (kântel), woven with many strands, symbolizes the many responsibilities and the shared life journey of husband and wife.
