REFLEX REVIEW

My first pregnancy was wrought with drama.
It was prefaced by two prior miscarriages and climaxed with preterm labour and bedrest from 27 weeks. I had been on uncomfortable, expensive (not covered by medical aid) progesterone and then my gynae insisted on reflexology too! The story concluded with a happy ending...I finally held our long awaited first child in my arms!

Fast forward 5 years and I listen to my beautiful firstborn try to reason why she can't have a baby brother or sister. It crushes my heart like a winter leaf underfoot because in my quiet moments I try my best to make sense if the exact same dilemma. I tell her that "We've asked God for another baby but He knows what's best for us" and, while I do believe that to my core it still feels like the crushed fragments of my disappointed heart are being slowly blown away.

That's when the idea came...He used reflexology before...why not try it again. And Carolyn and I started our journey after 18 months of trying everything else to become pregnant. It didn't happen immediately and, I must admit, after 3 months I had started to wonder if it was going to help at all...but I felt so good after each session. So healthy! So relaxed! My feet actually craved my reflex sessions if I missed one and so we just carried on regardless.

A month later it happened! I was finally pregnant! And not just pregnant...two weekly progesterone count blood tests confirmed that my body was maintaining its own progesterone this time! What a wonderful miracle! This time 'round I feel nauseas and exhausted but I couldn't feel better because I'm healthy! I'm through the first trimester but will continue with my weekly reflexology right through this pregnancy and, God willing, in 6 months I hope to be introducing my firstborn to her new brother or sister!
