Fear.
The one thing that holds us back from our greatest breakthroughs.
Every year, we create New Year’s resolutions, detailed plans, and beautiful vision boards.
Yet the very thing that stops us from achieving them is fear.
The fear of losing weight—what if we don’t like how we look?
Even though staying the same keeps us stagnant, tired, and uncomfortable.
The fear of leaving a job that drains us—
a place where we are deeply unhappy—because what if we never find something better?
The fear of starting that business—
because what if no one buys, or it doesn’t succeed?
And the list goes on.
So what purpose do vision boards or New Year’s resolutions serve if we are fearful of the future?
In Matthew 6, we are reminded not to worry about tomorrow, because tomorrow will take care of itself. We are called to trust God, to seek first what truly matters, and to believe that what we need will be provided. Fear keeps us focused on what if. Faith keeps us focused on who.
Because here’s the truth:
The future requires faith in the present.
So this year, practice faith.
Take risks.
Trust God.
Be fearless.
