Gompo is not a new name; it is the original name.
The area was known as KuGompo before 1834.
In 1836, it was renamed Port Rex, and by 1848 it was officially named East London.
Despite these changes, the place has always been Gompo to its original people that is amaqunukwebe clans that is " Inqua, Gonaqua, Gamtoos, Hoengiqua (Gikwa), Ntinde, Thathu, Sukwini, Gqwashu, Cete and Nqarwane" those are some of Khwe Xam "Khoisan" and Xhosa clans....and the name ku Gompo is from the sound made by sea waves when hitting the rocks.

I was once out on a date with a girl at Newscafe. Within 5 minutes of us sitting, and while trying to decide what to order her 2 friend pop out of nowhere and join our table. So i thought they were there to say hi and meet me until they asked for the menu😂..
