•Discussing rates again… to all the new make up artists out there. If you would like a prospective future/career in the industry, stop cutting yourself short.
There will never be a future for you if you’re constantly charging completely below the market rates.
No one should be charging anything under R 700- R 850.00 for make up and R 1000- R 1250.00 for make up and hair. These rates are more than reasonable for beginners… if clients don’t want to pay, they can go to a shopping center and have their make up done under fluorescent lights by a sales person!
Make up artistry is an art, a luxury service!
To work your way up to a high end rates as professional make up and hair artist you need to value yourself and your skill more.
Charging lesser rates just to get the job is ruining the industry. You are sabotaging your own career!
Make up is expensive, your course cost you money, travel is expensive. Time is money! Please artists, stop devaluing yourselves as artists.
I have worked in the industry for over 30 years, I know all about the going rates and not to sound like I know it all, I know the going rates for make up and hair… from private bookings to the professional/commercial industry!
Know your worth! Do not let clients bully you into lowering your rates because they cannot afford you, or just so you can get the job !!
Do not sabotage your future and so many others!
