'I'm predicting a back to basics return to the technique that started the revolution – balayage,' says celebrity colorist Jack Howard at Paul Edmonds.
'There are so many offshoots of balayage, from strobing to denim to the newest tiger eye trend, but they're all created with the balayage freehand technique and so open to complete personal interpretation,' he reveals.
Whether you have dark hair or light tones, there's a balayage colour for you. Jack notes: 'There's no one size fits all when it comes to your colour which is why freehand creative painting will be the go-to application technique for this year.'

Hairstylist Alex Brownsellsays: 'I know people who spend hundreds getting their hair to look perfect and spend the whole day and night looking at their reflections in car windows. Do what feels natural and stop worrying.'
To achieve the natural look, Alex advises: 'Brush your hair before you wash it then wash it gently so it doesn't get super tangled. After washing lightly towel then leave to dry completely naturally without even touching it to bring out its natural texture.'
Washing with Kérastase Chroma Riche shampoo and conditioner and using a Bleach London Reincarnation Mask for a treatment once a week are rituals the hairstylist swears by.

#12 HAIR EXFOLIATION
Thought exfoliating was only for skin? Think again.
'A big trend for 2017 is the detox to really cleanse your hair with a detoxing and exfoliating treatment for your scalp and hair,' says Jamie Stevens.
'Matrix Sugar Shine Blowdry (starts at £50 including blowdry) is a silicone free, sugar-based scalp scrub that gently removes impurities. The water-soluble crystals melt into hair, softly removing build up from roots to ends leaving hair nourished,' he adds.
Softly scrubbed hair is the aim of the game here.

#11 CONTOUR COLOURING
Take the plunge with one of they year's biggest trends that highlights certain sections of the hair to extenuate your facial features.
With contour colouring - otherwise known as 'contourage' - Darren Ambrose says: 'It picks out light and dark shadowing round the face which contours the hair in a similar was to the make-up technique.
'As enhancing length and definition in the hair, it can give more definition to bone structure and enhance a chiselled effect as well as highlighting skin tone so it's a multi-flattering trend,' he adds.

#10 CONFLICTING COLOURS
Whether it's black v white, under colours or chunky stripes, 2017 is the year to embrace colour in a big way.
Alex Brownsell says: 'Halloween might be nine months away but with the right attitude a Bellatrix Lestrange shock of white or darker than normal roots could kick start 2017.'
'Even changing a hair's natural colour by a few shades at one length can create an interesting optical illusion without freaking out your boss/mum/girlfriend/vicar,' she adds.
After all, no one wants to shock the vicar.

#9 'ACTUAL' NATURAL HAIR
When hairstylists talk about the 'bed-head look' or 'natural curls', it often involes a lot of hair product, styling and heat.
But, internationally-renowned hairstylist, George Northwood said this year natural hair is doing exactly what it says on the tin.
Predicting this year's au-naturel trend, George says he thinks there will be a greater focus on 'actual natural hair, rather than a styled 'natural' look'.
He says: 'I think it's really about easy-wear hair, a strong cut tailored to the individual worn naturally.
'Just as the quality of your skin becomes more important with light make-up looks, the quality of your cut and your hair condition really matter,' he adds.
George advises caring for your hair using 'good quality shampoo and conditioner, handle brushes and hot tools with care to minimise mechanical damage'.
Sounds like sage advice to us.

#8 NEON/GLOW IN THE DARK HAIR
Take inspiration from Marc Jacob's SS16 neon 90s rave show and throw it back to multi-coloured locks this year.
According to Alex Brownsell, the biggest trends she's seeing at the Bleach salons right now are neon and glow in the dark.
'I'm no stranger to funky tints but these new colours are the first that have ever made me feel old. All these kids are coming in wanting to outdo each other with intense digital shades that make their heads look almost CGI. Think sulphuric acid melting a heap of discarded Argos tinsel,' she says.

#7 THE MOMU – MODERN MULLET
London Hairdresser of the Year finalist Karine Jackson is championing the evolution of the mullet this year. Yes, really.
'The point of the mullet is the back's longer and the front's shorter - by adapting it to age and face shape it becomes the MoMu and it'll work for anyone. The mullet describes a shape and this new version is a fashionable way to wear it,' she says.
But, don't go thinking it's as harsh of a cut as it dounds.
'We've made it softer, less angular - it's a more glamorous take and is more blended and tapered than its original incarnation - in the 80s it was virtually two haircuts - it was short round the ears - now it's longer round the ears but still shorter on top, and this is a more seamless way to wear it,' she says.
In order to prep you hair, Jackson suggests using Organic Colour Systems Thermal 2 Twenty before styling to protect and add shine and suggests you rough dry the roots before using a round brush to blow-dry.

#6 GO GREEN
With the new year dawns a chance to go bold and experimental with colour.
And, while we thought last year's succulent-inspired hair trend was a too bit 'out there', L'Oreal Professional's UK Colour Spokesperson Jack Howard says green will be one of our go-to hues for 2017.
'Green shades were definitely on the rise during the last few months of 2016 and Pantone's colour of the year Greenery has already been making waves in the hair world at the start of 2017.
'The secret to a wearable green is to make it look expensive – metallics and deep emeralds are the coolest shades,' he adds.

# 5 THE MODERN BOB
Darren Ambrose – former British Hairdresser of the Year – says that while the bob will continue to be a firm favorite this year, we should expect to see it with a modern twist.
'The bob never goes out of fashion but we'll see a different line in the bob - rather than a classic cut we'll see shorter back and longer sides or a more pageboy look, with soft layered texture to enhance the movement of the hair cut,' he says.
