Understanding.

No one who hasn’t lost a parent… let alone both… really understands what it does to you. The grief doesn’t just sit in one place — it spreads into everything. Your thoughts, your choices, your sense of self.

I lost my dad when I was about a year old… before I even got the chance to know what having a father felt like.

I lost my mom at 19.

And somehow, I was just expected to keep going like a normal person.

People don’t see the weight of that. The anger. The confusion. The emptiness that doesn’t have a clear place to land. The way it changes how you connect to people… or how hard it becomes to feel safe anywhere.

There’s no “family home” to go back to.
No real sense of being held down by anything solid.

And the worst part?
You carry it mostly alone.

Because when you try to explain it, people either don’t get it… or they try to fix it with advice that doesn’t even touch what you’re feeling.

“Stay strong.”
“Focus on the positive.”
“Give it time.”

Time doesn’t replace people.
It just teaches you how to carry the absence.

And some days… carrying it feels heavier than others.
