We all have dreams and promises from God we’re believing for. We start off excited. We’re sailing along fine, making progress, then a storm arises—an unexpected challenge, a sickness, a breakup, we lose a loved one, a contract we were counting on doesn’t go through. It’s easy to get discouraged and think that it’s never going to happen. But God doesn’t promise something and then change His mind. He doesn’t put a dream in your heart and then take it back. What He starts, He finishes. You may not see a way, but God has ways we’ve never thought of.
Storms come to us all. It might be your health, your marriage, your finances. The good news is that God is in control of the winds. He’s in control of what’s trying to stop you. All He has to do is speak the word and calm the storm. Will you trust Him even though the winds are howling and you don’t see any sign of it improving? God is directing the winds, and He’s going to get you to where you’re supposed to be.

We all have people who are influencing us, people who are in our ear. We’re listening to their counsel, following their suggestions, trusting what they say. The question is: Are they the right people? You shouldn’t take advice from everyone or be swayed by every opinion. You need to look at their track record. Have they made good decisions? Do they honor God? Do they have your best interests at heart? You have to be careful who’s in your ear. If you have wrong voices, you’re going to make wrong choices. If you hang around friends who compromise or coworkers who gossip, their example, their advice, and how they’re influencing you will keep you from your potential.
Be selective. Some people will tell you how to run your life, but they can’t even run their own life. They’re giving you relationship advice, but they’ve been through six breakups. They’ll tell you how to invest and spend your money, but they can’t pay their own bills. Before you take that advice, consider the source. Are they a person of integrity and excellence?

Let Today Be the Day
God chose a teenaged shepherd named David to become the next king of Israel. David didn’t come from royalty. His family was poor. His father had no influence in the nation. David had no training or experience beyond the shepherds’ fields. His father hadn’t even called him into the house as a possible choice from among his eight sons. Imagine how David felt when Samuel anointed him and told him that he was God’s chosen one. It didn’t make sense. He knew that if he showed up at the palace, they would have said, “Who is this stranger? He has no qualifications.”
Maybe you feel like David. You know God’s calling is on you, but you’re a stranger. Will you do as David did and believe that you are chosen? Don’t go through life handpicked by the Creator, with seeds of greatness, redeemed and forgiven, but never step up to who you were created to be. Let today be the day you say, “This is new to me, but I’m going to live fully as a child of the Most High God.”
