This might sound cocky but that is not the angle at all.

Firstly - if you are a MUA that claims โ€˜youโ€™re just too busy to respondโ€™ . . Jokes on you. I will happily take all your business. Not responding to clients doesnโ€™t make you look busy or successful โ€” it reflects a lack of professionalism.

Things I hear VERY often more than Iโ€™d like:

โ€œThank you for the quick response. I messaged a few other MUAโ€™s and itโ€™s been over a month & Iโ€™ve not heard back yetโ€

โ€œThe MUA was so rude. It was actually so uncomfortable to have her the morning of my weddingโ€

I get messages like these โ€” or very similar โ€” all the time.

I always say your skill can only bring you so far. Yes you might be amazing at your craft, but when professionalism & friendliness goes out the door, you will lose a lot of business. And in our industry, reputation is very important. 

I have a personal policy to respond within 24 hours even if it is just a quick reply to tell the client I acknowledge their message. It is not always possible to reply with a quote immediately, but acknowledging a client is very important.

And then not even to mention MUAโ€™s dropping brides last minute for petty reasons. The only valid reason is if you are literally hospitalized. But this is a post for a different dayโ€ฆ

1. Respond to clients within 24 hours. Even if you donโ€™t have a quote ready, acknowledging their inquiry shows you value their time and confirms youโ€™ve received their request.
2. Using quality products will allow your clientsโ€™ makeup to still look beautiful after an entire day and not only for the first photo.
3. Do not leave a trial until your bride is completely satisfied. When a bride feels confident in her final look, it boosts her excitement for the big day. Smaller adjustments can be made on the day but the look should be 90% established after the trial.
4. Clients donโ€™t only remember your amazing makeup, but also the way you made them feel. A little kindness goes a long way.
5. Luxury service is in the details: clean kit, calm energy & professionalism.
6. Confidence comes from preparation.
7. Provide your bride with a time schedule. This not only helps the bridal party know when to be ready for their makeup session but also allows you to manage your time effectively and avoid any last-minute stress.
8. Go above and beyond even though doing makeup &/or hair is your main role. Although it may be just another wedding to you, itโ€™s one of the most important days of their lives. Offer guidance and assistance wherever possible to make the day smoother for everyone involved.
