One of the cruel aspects of unsterilized female dogs is that a dog can get pregnant as early as 6 months of age, which is when most reach sexual maturity and experience their first heat cycle. A heat cycle lasts roughly 2 to 3 weeks.

However, smaller breeds can go into heat as early as 4 months, while giant breeds may not have their first cycle until they are 18–24 months but still all these dogs are only puppies themselves. Will it be fair to expect your teenager to fall pregnant and deliver a healthy litter of babies?

Our organisation would like to say an incredibly special and big thank you to Claudine Van Den Eijkel! This wonderful woman devotes her life to helping animals in need around our community! Claudine is heavily involved in all our mass sterilisation drives, transporting animals to our sterilisation days, bright and early in the morning, and then transporting them back to their homes at the end of the day! Claudine has helped us tremendously with getting our dog trailer roadworthied and sorted out so many issues on the trailer for us! The work that she does with the animals in our community, is on a voluntary basis and she does it out of the love of her heart! You are an incredible woman and we appreciate you deeply!
