Your employee just learned their blood pressure or blood sugar is high. What happens next?
That is where workplace wellness becomes very real.
High blood pressure and diabetes are two major causes of chronic kidney disease. High blood pressure can damage the tiny vessels the kidneys use for filtration, while persistently elevated blood glucose can damage the kidneyās filters over time.
So those numbers on a screening are not isolated measurements. They are giving someone information about what may be happening inside the body. Then the employee goes back to real life.
..What are they eating for lunch?..How much sodium is in their regular meals?..Are they moving?..How are they sleeping?..What is happening with stress?..Are they taking their medications as directed?..Do they understand what their numbers mean?..Do they know which existing health benefits could help them?
This is where consistent nutrition and lifestyle support makes a difference.
Healthy Habits High ReturnsĀ® gives employees, managers, leadership, and the C-suite a place to understand their health information, connect it to everyday patterns, explore possible root causes, and make better use of the healthcare and wellness resources already available to them.
The screening measures. Ongoing support helps turn awareness into action.
I love helping create workplaces filled with happier, healthier, more resilient people who understand their bodies better and have support creating healthier daily rhythms.
That is what happens when wellness becomes part of the way people live instead of something they participate in once or twice a year.

Your kidneys are doing far more than filtering water.
Healthy kidneys filter about half a cup of blood every minute, and each kidney contains around a million tiny filtering units called nephrons.
But that is only part of their job.
Your kidneys also help regulate fluid and minerals, participate in blood-pressure control, support bone health, and even produce a hormone called erythropoietin that tells your bone marrow to make red blood cells.
Then the connections keep going.
High blood pressure can damage kidney blood vessels, while elevated blood sugar can damage the kidneyās filters. Declining kidney function can also make blood pressure harder to control.
This is why I look at health as a connected system rather than a collection of separate symptoms. Food, blood sugar, blood pressure, hydration, movement, medications, sleep, and everyday habits all give us information.
The question becomes:
What is happening, what else might be connected, and what can we support?

Your hormones need more than one āhealthy habit.ā
Last weekās blog explored what is actually happening underneath hormonal health.
Cholesterol provides raw material for steroid hormones. Insulin helps regulate blood glucose. Circadian rhythms help time hormonal signaling. Movement improves insulin sensitivity. Stress-response pathways communicate with reproductive-hormone pathways.
That is why I keep coming back to root causes and connections. The same principle applies in workplace wellness.
A short-term challenge can introduce a healthy behavior. Consistent nutrition and lifestyle support helps people understand why those behaviors matter, notice what is happening in their own bodies, and turn what they learn into healthier daily patterns.
Healthy Habits High ReturnsĀ® brings that ongoing support into the workplace alongside existing healthcare and benefits. I love helping create workplaces filled with happier, healthier, more resilient people.

Do you want your co-workers to have more energy, focus, patience, and resilience?
Then we also need to look at what is happening inside the body.
Hormones do not operate independently.
The body uses cholesterol as a building block to make steroid hormones including estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, and cortisol.
Sleep and circadian rhythms help regulate the timing of endocrine signals, including reproductive and stress hormones.
Movement helps skeletal muscle use glucose more effectively and improves insulin sensitivity, supporting healthier metabolic function.
Stress-response pathways also communicate with reproductive-hormone pathways.
These are not separate wellness ideas.
They are connected physiological systems.
This is why consistent nutrition and lifestyle support matters.
Healthy Habits High ReturnsĀ® gives employees, managers, leadership, and the C-suite support with nutrition, sleep, movement, stress, blood-sugar patterns, and everyday habits throughout the year.
My role is helping people understand what is happening, explore root causes and patterns, and create healthier daily inputs while continuing to use the medical care and benefits already available to them.
I love helping create workplaces filled with happier, healthier, more resilient people.
When people feel better, they bring more energy, patience, focus, and resilience to their coworkers, families, leadership, and work.

Did you know cholesterol helps your body make hormones?
Cholesterol is not simply something we measure on a blood test.
Your body uses cholesterol as a precursor to make steroid hormones including estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, cortisol, and aldosterone.
That does not mean elevated LDL is harmless.
It means cholesterol has important jobs.
And it is a perfect example of why I like looking at what is actually happening in the body.
Hormonal health also depends on much more than one nutrient.
Insulin signaling, sleep and circadian rhythms, stress-response pathways, movement, metabolic health, and nutrition all become part of the bigger picture.
That is where root-cause thinking becomes useful.
Instead of simply asking, āWhich hormone is off?ā I want to understand what may be influencing the system.

A wellness challenge can start a conversation. Consistent support helps people keep the conversation going.
Last weekās blog explored the nervous system, including something many people find surprising: the gut contains hundreds of millions of neurons in its own enteric nervous system.
But one of the bigger messages from the article is that our health responds to what happens repeatedly.
Food. Sleep. Movement. Stress. Work. Relationships. Habits. Recovery.
The same is true in workplace wellness.
A challenge may inspire an employee to make a change for a few weeks. Ongoing nutrition and lifestyle support gives that person somewhere to turn when the challenge ends, life gets busy, a health number changes, stress increases, or they need help understanding what may be at the root of a pattern.
Healthy Habits High ReturnsĀ® adds that ongoing human-centered layer alongside existing healthcare plans, medical providers, EAPs, screenings, and wellness resources.
I love helping create workplaces filled with happier, healthier, more resilient people who receive support taking care of themselves throughout the year.

Do you want to see more patient coworkers?
How about coworkers with more energy, greater resilience, better focus, and healthier lifestyles? Those outcomes are not created by asking people to complete a wellness challenge once or twice a year. Challenges have value. They can create awareness, introduce new ideas, and motivate people to try something different. But health happens every day.
Employees, managers, executives, and CEOs are making choices about food, sleep, movement, stress, and their health throughout the year. That is why I believe in consistent nutrition and lifestyle support. It's time to help employees and the company's bottom line.
Healthy Habits High ReturnsĀ® gives people a place to understand how their daily choices affect how they feel, explore root causes and patterns, ask questions, and make changes that fit their lives while continuing to use their existing healthcare and benefits.
I love helping create workplaces filled with happier, healthier, more resilient people, from coworkers and managers to leadership and the C-suite. When people feel better, have more energy, understand themselves better, and receive support making healthier choices, they have more opportunities to bring patience, focus, resilience, and engagement to their coworkers, families, and work.

How is your gut your 2nd Brain?
Did you know your gut has roughly as many neurons as your spinal cord?
Your digestive tract contains an extensive neural network called the enteric nervous system. Estimates generally range from about 200 to 600 million neurons, and some research describes it as having at least as many neurons as the spinal cord. That is one reason the gut is sometimes called the āsecond brain.ā
But what interests me most is not simply the number. It is the connection. Your gut and brain communicate back and forth, and that helps us understand why digestion, food, stress, sleep, mood, nervous-system activity, and other health patterns may be more connected than they initially appear.
This is what I love about functional nutrition. Rather than looking at one symptom in isolation, we can look for patterns, connections, and potential root causes. Sometimes one surprising connection helps us see our health very differently.
This weekās blog explores the brain and nervous system through a whole-person functional nutrition lens.

Knowing your cholesterol number is valuable. Knowing what may be influencing it is even more useful.
Last weekās blog looked at healthy fats, cholesterol, and why functional nutrition considers much more than a single nutrient or laboratory result.
Many people focus on the cholesterol in food while overlooking added sugar, refined carbohydrates, fiber, movement, sleep, stress, and other everyday factors that can influence cardiovascular and metabolic health.
A number can create awareness, but then come the everyday decisions: breakfast, lunch, grocery shopping, eating out, movement, stress, sleep, family habits, and everything else that influences health between appointments.
That is true for individuals, and it is also why ongoing workplace wellness support can be so valuable.
Healthy Habits High ReturnsĀ® complements medical care, screenings, health plans, EAPs, and existing wellness resources by helping people connect health information with realistic daily choices.

What if we helped employees improve their health before the next crisis?
This week Iām talking about cholesterol, but the bigger conversation is about what workplace wellness could look like when people receive more support before health concerns become more serious.
Iām excited about helping create workplaces filled with healthier, happier, more resilient people, from employees and managers to leadership and the C-suite. Imagine people having more energy, understanding more about their own health, and feeling better supported in making lifestyle choices that work in real life.
Nutrition, movement, sleep, stress, habits, and other daily choices can all influence health. When people receive practical support in these areas, they have a better opportunity to take an active role in their wellbeing while continuing to work with their healthcare providers.
Healthy Habits High ReturnsĀ® can complement existing medical care, health plans, screenings, EAPs, and wellness resources by adding functional nutrition and lifestyle counseling that helps people turn health information into everyday action.
That is the kind of workplace wellness Iām excited about: healthier people, more resilience, more energy, and support that reaches everyone in the organization.
