I couldn’t believe it, but it’s true. Glycerin is removed from soap by a process called “salting out.” Sodium chloride is added to the hot soap during the soap making process. Soap doesn’t dissolve in a strong salt solution, so the soap coagulates and floats to the top a solid. Then glycerin-rich lower layer is drained away from the soap on top. More bubbles doesn’t = more clean. It’s very visually appealing, but when it comes to natural soap, bubbles are often influenced by ingredients. Coconut oil and castor oil, for instance, create a soap that produces more bubbles. Adding a sugar (honey, table sugar, lactose etc.) can create more bubbles too. The big bouncy bubbles in commercial soaps are often created by detergents or artificial surfactants. These can be handy (think Dawn dish soap!!), but can sometimes create an artificial idea of how bubbly true soap should be. https://soap-central.com/

I’m getting tired of trying to guess what makes a good, entertaining video. All the hints and tips and templates I see look so fake or pandering. But I find myself drawn to certain kinds of reels for my own personal doom scrolls, and that makes me wonder, what makes YOU stop YOUR scroll, or what makes you avoid certain posts? I’ll go first. For me, I will skip anything that tries to catch me with guilt. “I bet no one will—“ (you bet right) “You’ll watch XYZ, but won’t take the time to help me with my dreams..” (that’s because I actually like and am interested in XYZ) “It’s my (insert special occasion here) and no one cares” (I’ve never seen you before in my life). Things like that.

Let me get one thing clear, I’m not hating on melt and pour soaps. There are pros and cons to cold process, hot process, and melt and pour soaps, but one con to melt and pour soaps is that you cannot add fresh ingredients. I saw a woman adding milk to a batch of melt and pour soaps online and let me tell you now, those are going to go bad SUPER fast. ALSO. Lots of the AI soap recipes I’ve been seeing lately suggest using a melt and pour base with fresh ingredients.
