It’s World Bee Day, and close to our hearts is nature’s master perfumer, the orchid bee…

Other than humans, male orchid bees are the only species known to intentionally compose fragrance. These tiny artists spend their days restlessly searching for nature’s rarest aromatics, blending them into a signature perfume to impress during their courtship rituals.

The more unique and sophisticated the scent, the more it reveals the bee’s acuity, and the more alluring he becomes. In the end, it’s his individuality, creativity, and devotion that sweeps her off her wings…

In perfumery, orris root refuses to be pinned down. Sometimes it’s buttery and warm, other times powdery and cool with violet-like nuance. But always, it refines a composition like a soft-focus lens, diffusing its mystery across each layer and grounding the notes into a luminous whole.

🌿 In Fair Verona, orris is a soft, earthy haze through warm sandalwood and velvet green oakmoss, casting a moodier light over luminous citrus and jasmine.

🌹In Dimanche, orris brings dry, non-candied restraint to a rich  gourmand, melting into cacao to tame the burst and bloom of sweet orange and crystalline florals.

Beneath the iris’s delicate petals, down the stem and into the roots, hides one of perfumery’s most precious ingredients—orris, from the “rhizome” or root bulb of the iris flower, more valuable than gold.

At first it’s odorless, but after years of maturation, the rhizome begins to release a magnificent, dimensional, suede-like scent. It’s a complex floral aroma, but you can really feel the earth…the floral beauty before it becomes the petal. Rooted and refined. Few ingredients entice us more.
